Update on the Parties:

The pre-launch party on the Belfast was an enormous succuess, with all the rally entrants mixing with stars and celebreties, along with the media...BBC News, Sky and Richard and Judy.

The ZapCat racing team did a superb display on the Thames by Tower Bridge.

Then the party moved to London's most exclusive club, Modiva, where the competitors partied the night away chatting to the likes of Robbie Williams, Elton John etc who are all looking to buy a Rib.

The picture shows one of the boats in Soho outside the club which will be launched in time for the rally tommorrow

Yes be interesting to see how many boats are taking part.

Weather seems good for them, should be a fast crossing.

I was at the party last and met TimW and was a fine gentlemen. We discussed this thread and was brieflt interupted by the swathes of beautiful looking women in Movida. This is going to be such a cool event, I'm in a boat wiith four girls so I think that I might make page3 in the sun, obviously no-one would want to look at me but I am sure that my crew will be a well sort after asset. The organisers have done a fantastic job and now I'm off to pack the sun cream and sex toys for the in flight entertainment.

So for all those that are in the Tower Bridge area...there is going to be more hp for square mile here that a F1 race could dream of

One very excellent reason of having nothing to do with this event....At least I work for a living

What a joke ! I have seen more boats in my bath tub !

These were the entrants that we saw :

1 Blade Runner
2 Zap Cats
2 Motor Cruisers
Approx 5 Ribs.

Where was the Hovercraft & Helicopter ?

Even the River Police seem bored with the whole thing and did not bother to offer an escort.

As I over heard from one of the organisers – the usual Gumball f**k up !!

Personally I thing gumballs up would have been more appropriate !!

I think we should wait for the "official" report, describing the 20+ 1000hp speedboats, 14 hovercrafts, countless ribs, enough topless totty to sink the Bismarck, 6 helicopters and the Red Arrows and Uncle Tom Cobbleigh... Instead of relying on a independant eye witness's account of things..

dont think there's a chopper that'll have the payload to haul my enormous gut to midhurst, but if you're up for it, got two spare badges and front row parking for the day - beers and food for all...call on mobile before 1030 if you're about...

Mmmm...admitably there weren't that many boats, I think it was 15, not all were there at the start.

A few pulled out this morning realising that one of the problems with the Thames is the logistics of getting a boat on there...and mooring, it's certainly feasable but can be a lot of hassle towing through narrow streets and what to do with the trailer etc.

It was certainly a very funny day, Rebecca Loos (David Beckham fame) turned up on a boat just off Greenwich with plenty of press and film crews.

I went as far as Gravesend, which is approx 28 miles from Tower Bridge with the Harbour Master on board controlling the speed of the Rally, mainly about 30 to 35 knots with some easing down past places like the London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury.

The weather was fabulous and the river very calm.

We turned around at Gravesend to return to London, and it was amazing to see the 2 Zapcats preparing to cross to go out into the Estuary and cross the channel...they are very small indeed.

It featured on ITV London Tonight and BBC London News. There is also going to be a big spread in Motor Boats and Yachting, and some of the tabloids will have pics mainly because of Rebecca Loos.

I've no idea how they are getting on en route to Boulogne, but everything seemed to be going well when I turned around.

I should be able to post some pictures soon.

Rally progress

I've had to come back because I am going on a holiday but I was with the rally this morning. We had an epic crossing across the channel at sunset and got to Boloungne in the fading light. We had a great run to Ramsgate and then refuelled. A quck briefing was given to the Ribs that were taking part and then we let loose. Navigation was not a problem at all and took 45 mins, noticibly quicker that the ferry that I used this morning.

They are all in great spirits and the energy and the vibe of the crews is amazing...a truly great event. We had a couple of zapcatters and a jet ski going across, and a whole mix of people. Feel like that I have done a great adventure and to all those that said that it couldn't or shouldn't be done...it has been done and it is a true credit to the people that went on it!
