Just watched Tel's better half's video, SIBs looks to be performing great, as Fenlander says, especially with 3 up and not at full throttle.

Don't know if it's the angle or the lens, but the KB350 looks narrow. Anyone know what the internal dimensions are? Can't find them online.

Spacious inner cockpit size of 2700 x 700 mm gives ample space for 2 fishermen.

Mixing units... re internal sizing... to be fair it is quite narrow being 2" less than the already quite narrow Aerotec and a whole 5" less than the T38... but it's 8" longer than the Aeotec and 3" longer than the T38 which makes it very roomy with that flat floor and adds to the long narrow look.

Glad you liked the bosses video. It was only doing 3000 rpm and it seemed pretty fast to me. That’s why I’m very reluctant to open it up a bit more. So your idea of fun with one up scares the life out of me. Maybe if I was on a lake I’d try a bit faster but the sea is unforgiving to fools so I’ll just plod along for now. Everyone that’s seen the Elling has commented on how good it looks. For me at the moment it’s all the gear and no idea lol

Experience will come and actually your slightly cautious approach will serve you well. You have a great start though in beginning with this years holy grail sib and motor combo… and that weather.

As to internal size we have found it quite spacious even with three of us on it and quite a bit of gear. It was well worth paying the extra for the seat bags as they store nearly all the stuff for the boat in them. In the front seat bag is the anchor and ropes and the drogue and still leaves plenty of room for anything else. In the back seat bag are all the borika accessories plus some other bits and pieces. I also use that one for the storage of the life jackets. At the back I had 2 fuel cans and a large tackle box which on one level contains the fishing tackle and on the lower level contains tools and repair kit and a few other bits and pieces. I was also carrying a large kit bag and two dry bags. The boss didn’t like having the pink builders bucket on there so we have ditched that for now. If we do a a few hours fishing then it’ll be back on board.
Btw. She tells me she’s going to post another video of yesterday trip to lantic bay.

This is great hearing about other Elling owners managing to actually buy these boats and have fun. Maybe I'll see another out there one day!

Narrow? pah, my internal is 3300 x 480. Out at Normans Bay yesterday in very slight chop, 1 up is such fun, I was almost spinning the little Merc 5 out at 5400rpm.

I just set up the elling bow dodger for holiday use in Cornwall (Fowey area) later in the month, hopefully to 'contain' our crazy little cocker spaniel. I'll keep a look out for other Ellingers.

Richard. Might see you down here in July as we will be coming back twice in July. I just hope the weather will be as good then as it is now.

Not much use to man nor beast tucked away in storage Tel.

I checked the video, only one in use between three of you

A new to you boat should be shouting "take precautions"

Looks like it was quick enough for you already, so take it easy while you learn its character.

Totally agree with you oldman. What I meant was they are kept in there when not in use. My friend says he never wears one and to be honest my mind was elsewhere when starting out on the first outing.
Yesterday it was just me and the wife and we were both wearing life jackets. She didn’t want to wear one but I insisted she did as my capabilities are very limited at the moment.
One of the things I’ve been told to do is throw a life jacket off the boat and retrieve it so I might have a little practice doing that later.

Richard don't take offence, it is narrower than most SIBs, not a bad thing just an observation.

I'd also buy a new tape measure!

480mm wide? I've got kayaks wider than that!

3300mm internal, would make the overall length more than 4 mtrs.

Yep I too winced a bit at the no LJs but didn't want to be too jobsworth however was going to PM you... but now it's been mentioned...

Personal opinion... in a SIB or any other smallcraft ours are on at the slipway or pontoon before we step aboard and no matter how "cool" local fisherman or other sporty type boat users look without we are always wearing.

Steve RichD's SIB is one of the long canoe style Ellings... so 4.3m overall and yes just 48cm internally.

Tel I'd advise getting into the habit of putting on life jackets before wheeling your SIB into the water, and the comment "She didn’t want to wear one but I insisted she did as my capabilities are very limited at the moment". Even if your capabilities are the best in the world there are others on the water who's capabilities leave a lot to be desired.

What type of bouncy aid/life jacket do you have at the moment - manual inflate or auto inflate? Don't forget if you throw one into the water to practice a rescue, you will need to renew the cartridge.

Yeah it's long and narrow all right. I love it, backup power is a kayak paddle!

Thing is though I can carry then engine in one hand (20kg), the boat on one shoulder (28kg empty & floor out), it planes 2up + dog/stuff. Just have to be a bit ... careful! As said, a riot single handed.

Akin to an Amazon river boat
