When I first tried the wheels the little lip is not in the way at all. It looks to me that the thickness of the fixing bracket combined with the inner box section gives enough space to clear the lip.

Ahh that's useful and may just be the case with the replacement wheels I have ordered.

When I deflate later I’ll take a photo of just the bracket and the lip by holding the bracket in its rightful place so you can see better as to what I mean

I’ll wait to see if anyone has any other comments about the wheels and fixing them before I start drilling any holes. Incidentally is there any special type of sealant I should be using when I drill the holes? Or will just normal weather proof silicon do?

in this photo i have took it with the bracket hanging down. as you can see it clearly misses the small lip on the bottom of the transom. the lip is approx 8mm and the clearance is about 6mm

Well we always ideally recommend marine sealant that will withstand salt water not stuff from B &Q for houses.

Sikaflex 291i is one but there are other brands.

Great. I’ll get some on order. Behind the fixing brackets there will be a rubber gasket, would it be wise to use the sealant on them too when I get around to fitting the wheels? And also put a bit in the identity plate screws.

Can't do any harm to seal any point where there could be water ingress to the transom. Having said that with our daily setup SIBs their potential problem is far less than any boat left on a mooring exposed to saltwater and rainwater year in year out.

I wonder what the reason is for the pin locating wheels and brackets.

My boat came with a pair of wheels with spring loaded pin that locates into a single slotted bracket. May be they would help with bracket location for you guys.

>>>just done another inflate, only took me 20 mins this time

I've never bothered to time an inflate exactly before but out of interest did so with the Elling today. From in the bag to fully up to pressure with seat and oars fitted just 15min30sec. They really are an easy setup SIB.

*Bravo 12v analogue gauge pump used.

Could you perhaps get a little chafe if the bottom of that leg is actually touching the lip you speak of in that pic. Perhaps raise it up a couple of mm

I took a picture of it in that position so that the clearance could be seen. When they are fitted as per instructions the fixing bracket is about 10mm up from the lip. So it won’t be touching anywhere near the lip.

Out of interest and seeing that it is a lot cheaper. Is this boat (also from Boatworld) similar to the Elling but just without the Sausage bottom bit.

This thread has got us clicking around on Boatworld !

Looks Pretty

It does not have the borika mounts as the Elling does. They are very useful for quick changing accessories. Others may look at it and give a more detailed opinion

Replacement transom wheels just arrived. Zodiac part Z61161

I've owned a set in the past and they were just plated steel which was OK but these are stainless and even better made.

The top turnkey screw and bottom bracket mounts space fine within the Elling's short transom meaning the lower bracket bolt heads inside will be a good 4cm above the air floor.

The way the bracket sets the leg out from the transom clears the small floor lip nicely and they raise the bottom of the tubes 24cm from the ground. TBH they could have been made for the Elling and not fitted any better. Remember though they are my chosen removeable type not flip up.

Anyway let the drilling begin (after measuring thrice).

Oh don't rush me on the wheel selection... that's a whole separate job that could spread over months.... but yes I might just hang the yellows on to see how they look... and yes the wheels they came with are 10".

Transom wheels fitted... that's a major factor towards enabling a test outing soon. No real problems. I had to remove the ID plate... you can see the small marks where the screws were in the image of the inner transom. I want to fit a pair of towing eyes so will do those before re-fitting the plate somewhere.

To neaten the job a little more and slightly increase the load spread over the bolt head I'll replace the standard bolts of the lower fixings with some dome head coach bolts... or similar with Allen or Torx heads like these...

https://www.accu.co.uk/en/flanged-bu...-SSBF-M6-40-A2

I tried the yellow wheels which bring the ground clearance up to almost 30cm... will roll better... and obviously puncture proof. So they might suit... wonder if they do them in red??
