My boat will be a "tentative" for any date in July becasue i may well have sold top-banana. If this happens i will try and charter one, the scillies really are good. They don't know it yet but if this fails i might catch a lift on Blue Ice!!!

Some have suggested Whitsun.
Otherwise sometime during the summer school holidays seems to be a favourite.

Did I mention that Jason (JCW) produced a superb 10/15min DVD of our trip down to the Scilly's last year?

Scillies in 2005
Just been browsing the internet and found there is a powerboat trip from Penzance to the Scillies on the 9th July. This may make that weekend very busy. See attached WEB site for details. Once on this site goto Pragramme, 2005 and then Programme again.
http://www.pathfinderpowerboatclub.org.uk/
Not sure if this causes a problem for the 9th/10th/11th July.

Thanks for that, I am in contact with Rob from Pathfinders and will come back to you with some data.
Far from being concerned, I rather hope we all meet up and have a chat and a beer or two together.

Hotels / camping
Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels on the Scillys - or are they all much of a muchness?
Camping. Could be an option but have been told "only if they have proper showers" - can anyone shed any light?
Has anyone booked their accommodation yet?
Regards

The July date is firm. Andy Cox is leading and he will start from Falmouth/St. Mawes. I will detail a timetable a bit later when I know everyones start position.
Searider
I prefer The Tregarthen Hotel (right by quay, no hill, good bar). But beware. As I keep saying you MUST book early and you will find accommodation more expensive than the mainland. If your hotel wants to charge you for an inclusive evening meal package, take it. Eating out in the Scilly's is limited so if you hotel has a restaurant..............
I gave you a list of posibilities in my e-mail? Yes?
Others
Please try and firm up with me as the clans are gathering, one group around Andy at the beginning of July and a second group in the wake of gingercoastie at Whitsun (for those with kids at school?). And with twin 250 Verados, I mean "in the wake of".
I am also talking to The Pathfinder Club to see if we can make friends with them as well.

Alex and Steve I might join you for the July trip but I need to work out fuel efficiency as I have never taken Spare RIB further than Hayle and Penzance for wakeboarding

Scillies 2005 - The Early Bird Cruise
School Holiday is May 28th until 5th June inclusive.
Do any of the people in the first cruise have a preferance for dates.
If you wish you can e-mail me and I will sort out the most suitable
e-mail is alexgreig@aol.com.
I guess this means I have fallen into volunteering as a sort of co-ordinater
I propose that we use Brians information (if you have no objection Brian) as the basis for the Early Bird Cruise, just changing dates as appropriate

I have been speaking with Robert Hill of The Pathfinder Club (webmaster@ppc.org.uk) re launching at Penzance. Sounds to me like a top man!
I have never launched there myself, but he tells me that you would need to slip close to High Water in order to assure clear routing to sea. HW is around 05.45 on the 8th July 2005. (HW on the 11th is around 7.30 in the evening).
He also informs me, that in his opinion, local parking is not abundant and not necessarily secure. Pathfinders have made parking arrangements local to Penzance and offers to share them with rib.net members should they wish to contact him.
In addition, Pathfinder members tend to sleep overnight with their boats already on the slip, and then start to launch VERY EARLY and with alacrity and military precision, launch away, re-park cars and trailers off-site, and swiftly depart to sea.
Robert himself will be going to the Scillys that day in a 30ft Maxum called Dragonfly II and invites any ribster to meet up with him and his club members for a beer. He estimates between 5 and 10 hard boats and ribs will be in his party.
Now where you launch is, of course, entirely of your own choosing, however, I wonder if some might like to consider Porthleven or Mylor or elsewhere in the Fal estuary?

I would not recomend trying to launch at Portleven. Penzance is the only really usable slip in Mounts Bay, but as you say Brian it has parking issues.
My recomendation would be to use Mylor. They seem to have a reasonable slip and parking can be arranged.
Falmouth Grove place is a good slip, but again long term parking and storage can be a problem.
