Tesco's isn’t too far away from the PZ slip but they might get the hump with twenty trailers parked in there

Just shows how wrong I can be. I went down there the other weeek to recce all launching posiblities on The Lizard, and thought this was a cracking place to try. See photos.
What's actually wrong with it?

I must admit you do make Porthleven look very nice, but it is open to the prevailing wind, which means any warning of bad weather then they drop the harbour gate. Also you are launching with your car parked across the main road through town. Parking is probably worse there than anywhere else, unless you know someone, which I don't.

Well iam in for july didant have to bribe anybody just the soul selling was a bit worrying still i wont need it for a wile will book B&B this week so i cant back out. As for launching i will go with the flow

Still interested but can't commit until very near the time......unfortunately!

Work have me by the bollix at the moment and for some strange reason they actually need me!

Must work on being required but not needed!!

Be interested if any other Guernsey boats were thinking of doing the trip!?

I'd suspect that I'd have to do the crossing a day early and then join in with the rest of you the next day for the trip to the scillies!?

If anything I'd be more interested in the July trip as although I can't guarentee the weather, it's a fair assumption the Channel weather should be a little more forgiving!

Edit: Does anyone know what the refueling situation is around Salcombe?

No petrol in Salcombe, but petrol in Dartmouth.
Next place for petrol is Mayflower Marina in Plymouth, then Mylor (Falmouth).
Simple A-B distances from Guernsey:
Plymouth 80
Mylor 105
Scillys 150
Add 20-25% to the above and that will be about right.
There MAY also be others travelling down that coast on the day. If you make an early start you may well be able to RV with them that morning. A typical RV point is The Eddystone about 10 miles short of Plymouth.

I think you have Salcombe and Dartmouth mixed up mate! Old age creeping in is it?

We definitely have petrol and deisel in Salcombe although I think only deisel in Dartmouth?

I suppose I could hit it all in one day......although makes for a long and tiring day. Plus for the sake of safety I'd have to stop at either Salcombe, Plymouth or Mylor for fuel and then rendevous. Best laid plans an all that!

So I reckon a night in a pub or B&B in Salcombe, or stay with friends in Plymouth (Saltash) and then meet up with people at a respectable time in the morning!

Depending on what is going on you may be able to stay at mine for the night - it's staggering distance from the pub as well! Might cost you a beer though! Call me before making other arrangements and we'll take it from there!

Thanks Cookee, I'll bear you in mind......although could be a crowd of us depending on who needs convincing (bullying) to come with me!

After my last jaunt across the channel, friends are thin on the ground when it comes to doing it again! Can't think why!?!?!?

And Dartmouth has Petrol on the Fuel Barge. I've filled up there

Hey, haven't had a cahnce to read this whole thread yet but I am taking a 40' Beneteau from Falmouth across to the Scillies for the Gig champs with some friends. We are leaving about 27th but are taking one pos two 4.5m tornados with us, they will prob be lannching Penzanace 28th/27th?

Not sure if anyone want's to join or will be there around then.

I launched from Mylor Yacht Harbour for the Scillies trip.

Very nice people, parking on site by arrangement.
Two slipways and pontoon for whilst you park the car / trailer.

I stayed the night before at the Old School House B&B in Mylor Bridge

'BOB' had enough fuel on board for the return trip so I did not need to refuel in the Scillies. ( 180 Litres in built tank and I carried a spare Plastic jerry can of 25 litres).

Subject to clearance of funds 'Bob' is sold. Some what quicker than I anticipated !!!

Which leaves me in a bit of a self inflicted dillema .

I'd like to go again to the Scillies but have made no decision yet on exactly what will replace 'BOB' and until I do ....
