you could count me in.......but i'm already here
If you need any info regarding the Scillies ask:
Note: The world pilot gig champs this year run from Friday 29th April to Monday 2 May. Racing is friday night all day sat+sun with drinking on Monday.
Accomodation wise the week leading upto it is busy: The weekend is stuffed and the week after is busy Lots of families from the visiting crews use it as a week's hol.
Maybe avoid that weekend.
August is high season both on the islands and on the water.
June not too busy Plenty of moorings then
Weather wise well anything is possible.
Petrol here is bl**dy expensive we're talking £1.20 something per LITRE.
I'll keep an eye for you all and say hello: around at work in a red bay 8.4 (postboat) and at play in a banana yellow Delta.

I'd be keen to do this one as well, in my Pacific. As already suggested though, I'd try and avoid the Gig Championships.

I propose a nice early season cruise 16/17/18 April.

I further propose following Brian's previous cruise which i was on last year and was fantastic. I have all the waypoints and a track from last year.

A rolling start, with, for a start, Top Banana coming from Plymouth, again an idea stolen from Brian.

The monday is NOT a bank holiday - but i would think that we are better off avoiding a bank holiday on a small tourist island!

Lets get the ball rolling......lol

It's good to see lots of enthusiam for a Scillies cruise this year.

At this point, I must ask if anybody with experience in organising such an event would like to take the next steps in the planning stage.......?
(I think Brian indicated that he would be happy to organise this cruise???)

I think it would be more sensible for somebody who has produced a cruise or taken part in one to be able to use their experience in planning a top event.

I know i started this thread originally, but with this potentially being my first RIB cruise, it would be a bit irresponsible for me to take the reigns on this one

I have already offered to Bryster to help to organise (or actually do the whole organisational bit) if requested.

Apart from that request, I would need two further things though.
One is a set of dates (suggest a 3-dayer, one to get there, one to cruise around, and one to get back).
And the other is a nominated leader.

If you give me those things, I will organise a cruise for you.

Hello all, I would love to come along on this trip. Will need a bit of time to organise leave from work. June or July may be suitable for me and a 3 day event sound great.

Only had my RIB for 5 months so new to this but will look forward to this event.

I may be able to get a couple of others interested.

I suggest we leave from Penzance but will have to catch the tide right. I would appreciate any advise. What equipment I should carry and how much fuel as I may have to purchase a few bits.

Cheers
Steve

OK let’s get crackin’

The first thing I want to do is to create my own e-mail list.
Rib.net does not show me your true e-mail address and more importantly, it does not allow me to attach documents to e-mails.

So I want all of you who wish to express an interest in a trip to The Scilly’s this year to e-mail me DIRECT at:
bdmelliott@aol.com
with the answers to as many of these questions as you can.
This does of course not commit anyone.

We don’t yet have any dates. Daniel suggested 16/17/18 April. Others think June/July.
So Question No. 1. When would you like to go? (It will be a 3-dayer). When I have your answers I will distill a best-fit date from the replies and then impose it.

Q2. Where would you like to start from? I will then draw up a rolling start schedule.

Q3. Would you like/or accept, to be the leader of the cruise on the day. You don’t need to be Captain Bligh, just sensible. I will organise the cruise for you, but cannot promise to be there.

Once I have created this e-mail list, I will then send you lots of information via e-mail in MS Word and MS Excel format.

Alan Priddy and John Kennett-would you like to be cc-ed on the e-mails?
This is not a BIBOA cruise and is open to anyone who wants to go.

We need to move fast chaps as booking your accommodation in the islands is your first priority.

So far the following have expressed an initial interest via this thread:
The Bryster, CJL, Biggles, gingercoastie, Delta.Charlie, Searider, Cookee, Daniel, Peter J., pettal, Roy Smith, mstacey, behaving (already there!!), Andy Cox, Nick Hearne and Steven Barlow.

Crikey if only half of you turn up it should be a real outing.

OK, I have 6 replies so far.
Most people seem to prefer end May/beginning of June or later.

Any more expressions of interest?
I would like to set a target date by Monday if possible.

After polling for preferred dates and a leader, I am pleased to say Andy Cox has stepped forward and agreed to lead a group down and around the Scilly’s on the 9th, 10 and 11th July, which is before the school holiday starts.
I am e-mailing all those on my list (and by request to anyone else) a “route down to the islands” map with suggested RV points for those who wish to join.
I anticipate starters from Torbay, Salcombe, Plymouth, Falmouth, and Penzance, at the moment.
I am also supplying documents dealing with all other items relating to the cruise.
Please read them carefully and be aware the most important thing to do right away is to book accommodation. The dates have been picked, in part, because they occur before official school holidays begin.
As participants clarify their intentions, and nearer the time, I will publish details of meeting times and of each attendee.

Thanks Brian (& andy), in my diary but i am unable to commit this early since i may well have sold top-banana by then. If that happens i'll think about chartering a tub for the weekend.

Peter J. (and Others)

I appreciate what you are saying about childrens school holidays.

Two points though:
Firstly accommodation in the Scilly's is very expensive and a lot of people want to minimise this.
Secondly. Just because these dates have been chosen, does not mean you cannot go when you wish. The dates above are when Andy can commit to lead.
If you (or anyone else) wants to go at another time, I am totally happy to forward to you all the info I am posting to those on my e-mail list. But you MUST give me your e-mail address. I cannot send you enclosures via rib.net.

I also will not be able to attend outside of school holidays, but if the other half agrees we could go for the whitsun weekend and make it a pre-scout for the main cruise later on.

Cruise 9/10/ and 11 July

I now have a number of possible/ probables for this trip.
Bryster, CJL, Biggles, Delta.Charlie, Searider, Cookee, Daniel, pettal(?), Roy Smith, Andy Cox (Leader), Andy Micklewright and Richard/Louise.

The following have indicated that these dates are not good for them but would prefer a second cruise, maybe at Whitsun.
gingercoastie, Peter J., Nick Hearne, Steven Barlow, and Peter-Joyce.

Is anyone prepared to lead a cruise for this second (but select) group?
