Easdale RIB Rendezvous, Oban, 30 April/1May
The Easdale RIB Rendezvous will take place w/e 30th April/1st May 2011.
Easdale is central to some fantastic RIB cruising on Scotland’s West coast. Situated 16 miles south of Oban Easdale boasts an excellent harbour. There are many local islands If the weather is poor there is still excellent sheltered cruising.
The proposal is to cruise in company and include trips to The Gulf of Corryvreckan, The Garvellachs and Colonsay.
Expert local RIB orientated advice is available.
It is our intention to have a dedicated website for this event
www.easdaleRIBrendezvous.org.uk available from mid January 2011..
Further information meantime from oban@seafari.co.uk
Cruising in company offers an additional degree of safety. The ‘rendezvous’ is suitable to both experienced skippers and those who may wish to extend their cruising experience. All skippers attending are responsible for the seaworthiness of their RIBs and for the safety of their crew. They are expected to take all appropriate seamanlike decisions necessary.

Website LIVE
Thanks for everyone who has shown interest in the event. To this stage there are around 20 RIBs which have indicated they may be attending. We would love to see more.
Website - this is now on screen at
www.easdaleRIBrendezvous.org.uk
The weekend 30 April/1st May was selected as it covers 2 bank holidays Fri Royal Wedding and Mon May Day. This allows people to travel. There is already talk of trips on both Fri and Mon. Should people wish to holiday for the week we would be delighted to help organise your stay
Tony

Just for a high level planning point of view, what's the est. departure time on Saturday? Also any thoughts as to Sunday's jaunt (if anything is being planned?)
Simply 'coz I'm at the sort of distance that an early start from the house may or may not be feasible.
Also half thinking of the tent for Fri night. What's the "eating out" situation like? Any Pub Grub / Takeaways etc? (I guess if there's a few staying over the local is likely where gravity will bring us all.....

No offence taken!
Firewall in here takes random huffs, so although I know where I can pitch my tent & launch the boat, I still don't know if the plan is to leave at 0700 or a nice leisurely 11......., so do I even need to bring it?

Tony,
What's the smallest boats that have registerred? Any sibs? My cruising speed with just me on board is 20knots on a flat calm day and whilst the trip has some appeal (if the weather is good) I wouldn't want to hold anyone up - but I also know there are a few intrepid sib owners who post on here and must have similar speeds?

Responses to various mails
Easdale is a tourism destination, food basically all day if needed. The restaurants here are well used to RIB passengers be it a sunny or a rain soaked day. Camping is fine at Highland Arts, there are B&B's self catering etc.
Start times - Sat to Colonsay - it is perhaps unwise to think everyone will be ready for a single start at 0930ish. Our intention was to get someone locally to leave at say half hour intervals from 0930 to 1030/1100 so people could join in as and when they are ready. It would also be unfair to try to tie up all RIBs in a single operation at Scalasaig (Colonsay). As its the first Easdale event it is a bit of suck it and see till people register.
Sunday can always be difficult. Some people go to bed early to be all action for the next day whilst others may party till closing time on Sat night andwish for a later start. Again various start times. Those who wish to recover RIBs Sun eve may wish for an earlier departure. As there are a number of local RIBs we can adapt.
SIBs and small RIBs
Everyone is welcome. Smallest RIBs to date Avon 4m x 2 There just needs to be realism as to what can be achieved with the weather. There is excellent SIB cruising here. Polwart, if you can gather a few SIBs together we can help organise suitable cruising. Take a look at a cruise to Belnahua, Garvellachs, Crinan, around Seil, up to Oban/Kerrera. We are happy to advise.
If you really would like Colonsay and its not calm then Seafari Adventures will be taking their 11m cabin RIB out for the day - book a seat.
Drop us an e mail via the website and we can help put something together. It would be great to see a wide variety of boats here.
Tony

Sounds great Tony - i presume you will be organising the blue skies, a nice big pod of dolphins and the odd basking shark as well?!
Count us in...if the weather is ok we will probably take both boats...polwart, our smaller boat is a 4m searider with a 40hp honda on so we wouldnt be able to keep up with the bigger boats, but i am sure we can sort a flotilla of smaller craft to set off a bit earlier...weather dependant of course.
Will be good to meet some fellow ribnet members rather than just communicating electronically!

I'd thought about bringing my 4m/40hp Searider as well but the same things were putting me off. If there will be other smaller boats then I might give it a go.
