Same here Ian,That fragmented front has passed Blackpool at 1800 hrs rain ect,Gary is proberbly getting it now in bolton then you in Manchester, after thata few showers and then the sun.

The big one off irland looks like she will be here erly next wk,Hopefully when we are in bed.

As far as I feel it its a runner maybe a few showers,if the skippers are happy . Lets do it.

I said to gary last week that what we wanted was a 'orrible fx or a good one but not an iffy one.
And an iffy one is what we have got.
local bbc tv fx shows 5mph -- whilst bbc national one shows 15 / 18 mph, together with that strong wind warning someone mentioned for conwy and a low lurking about I am not going to do it.
It will probably be flat calm both days now but what the 'ell I'll go out in a boat somewhere anyway - try to catch me some of these big bass I've seen caught this week!

Hi folks

Just chatted to Dave and have also decided to do somthing a bit more local after talking to wife & kids.

If the forcast was flat calm we would go, but having two kids on board, one only 7 we dont want to have 3 hours with the kids scared and having to keep hold of them.

Plan to go out but do somthing a bit more local so if it does blow up or is a bit rough to start with we can make a quick return.
Plan is Peil island for a pie & pint if anyone else is round.

I know the RIB is more then upto it but just dont want to scare kids on their second off shore outing.

Sorry, we was looking forward to it but their will be many more trips. Dont want to put kids off before they even get started.

Just got in from being down on the boat in Conwy, the weather here is still dodgey the local charter boys say its not a good weekend for the isle of man even for their 40fts charter boats my surgestion is to cruise Anglesey and surrounding areas. I know this is not what we all want but better to be safe than sorry..
Istill want to do the i.om. again soon.....POST YOU THOUGHTS

Never mind guys, it's the usual Manx summer....blink & you miss it.

Next w/e is the Isle of Man Cruiser Championships in Port St Mary, Sat Sun & Mon (B/H here).

If you want to hit PSM there'll be loads of boats about (admittedly mostly with sails).

After that I'm in Bangor (N Ireland) from 11/18 July yacht racing, but will be around 25 Jul, 2 Aug.

Stick the passage plans on anyway....I may use the reciprocals one evening.

Good job I haven't bought any petrol or confirmed numbers to the YC!

If anyone does go for it, let me know on 01624 621490.

So after all the excitement and expectation..............we aint goin'.
We will get the Rib's wet for sure, but not north of Anglesey.
Thanks to everyone for their help to get this arranged, especially John Whiting and the yachties who provided the Jerry Cans.
The NWR shall get to the IOM at some point in the future.
John, Aug 23/24 in Conwy if you can arrange to be there. We will supply the on-water transport.

State of sea slight (it's a mirror in douglas Bay)

Overnight easterly 4 sometimes 5

State of sea slight to moderate

Pumping the tubes now!

Lovely couple of hours this morning, Derbyhaven Bay followed by Laxey Harbour, then back for the regatta.

It's absolutely windless now.....not a ripple.

Conflicting forecasts for tomorrow again though!

Inshore forecast at 17:22 suggests 2-3, however Ronaldsway Met Office quotes 4-6 with sea moderate.

Oh well, sailing again I suppose!

Had a trip from Fleetwood to Piel Island today.
First section is the first 12 miles of the IOM tips route(almost)

Trip out we had a short 3-4 foot breaking swell was down to 15Ktsat times, lots of take offs when we speeded up.
Was OK but would have taken us more then 3 hours if we had done IOM.

Trip back with wind behind us we had about 2-3 foor swell and made good speed back to Fleetwood not dropping below 25kts and mostly 30Kts. (well we had to after pie & peas, etc we left Peil with only 30 min until the only lock in until 23.00 tonight

)

Hope the Anglsey trip went well.

We are planning a camping trip, BBQ, few beers etc to Piel in the next few weeks. Will post details when we get some dates times etc.

We have had an absolutely glorious day here......5-10 knots of breeze, sunshine all the way. Waves no higher than 18 inches (and mostly less than a foot).

Sadly only second in the regatta - we really needed that 4-6 Easterly promised!

We've had that easterly warm 4-6 down here all day until about an hr ago, when it all went all still and started to rain.

Now, I suspect it's getting ready to rumble

Either way, the forecast for yesterday and today down here was not accurate - yesterday was sizzling, and not much breeze at all.... the inshore waters reckoned upto f7 locally too

Well, instead of the planned Isle of Man, we spent the time cruising from Conwy to Pwhelli, via Abersoch.

Glorious weather all weekend, we all got nicely sunburnt on Saturday. Today it was sunny, but it got a bit rough on the water at times.

All in all a great weekend, and if someone has a spare mobile phone for sale, Crazyhorse might be interested

(someone will explain once we're recovered)

And then there was of course the high point of the weekend, meeting Mr Orkney SIB himself!

Just so you know what the sea conditions really were ....... we sort of did your trip in reverse leaving Peel IOM on Saturday morning at 0845 bound for Pwllheli, returning Sunday afternoon.

There was a slight chop on the west side of the Isle of Man but this faded away once we were through the Calf Sound and we then had a lovely run past South Stack and through Bardsey Sound stopping only briefly for a comfort break and to watch some dolphins off somewhere with a welsh name. We reached Pwllheli in three and a half hours.

The sun came out and we had a scorching afternoon.

Sunday was again sunny and hot all day, but windier with a 4 from the south east around the welsh coast. We left Pwllheli at 1345 and went as far as abeam of South Stack just in t shirts and shorts.

By then the wind had gone around to the NE but not increased any so we suited up and headed for home. It was irritatingly choppy at times but about ten miles off the Island this dropped away to nothing. Four hours for the return trip.

Keith, I thought I'd better refer to him as Crazyhorse until you'd done the honours of explaining, just so they knew who I was talking about.

Allen, on Saturday the conditions were great. Sunday, coming out of Pwhelli there was quite a swell, which led to quite a bumpy (but dry) ride (made worse by the fact I was sat on the tubes, holding on for dear life). If my hands hadn't been hurting so much from holding on, it would have been a lot of fun, Ian was certainly enjoying driving through it. Once we'd got through Bardsey Sound, the swell died down quite a bit, and we had some great fun driving from there onto the Menai Straits. Pretty good conditions all through there, but got a bit choppy towards the end. Then leaving Anglesey it got a bit too choppy, though it was fun for a bit. Waves were constantly coming over us in the searider, the other boats kept disappearing behind waves, we nearly landed on Dave and Keith, and then the boat decided it didn't want to turn right anymore. So we had a boat full of water, all the gear soaked, 2 people who were not having fun anymore, and to top it all off everytime we wanted turn right, we had to turn left a lot. It was decided then to get me onto Ged's boat, as the tubes were not a nice place to be at that point.

Absolutely cracking weather though, but I can feel the sunburn today

Just need to add a big thanks to everyone that went on the cruise. Special thanks to Ian for picking me up from home and letting me stay at his place on Friday night, and to Helen for keeping me company for a few hours. Then of course more thanks to Ian and his wife for putting me up at the caravan on Saturday night, and for a bloody fantastic barbeque. Cheers to Ged for letting me have a quick drive of The Full Morty, that is one seriously fun boat. And again cheers to Ged for dragging me onboard once Lynhome started getting flooded by the waves on Sunday! Cheers to Keith and David for dropping that bloody anchor at Conwy....

And of course, thanks Crazyhorse for giving us a good laugh with the mobile phone and the spider!

Great weekend, so nice one lads (and lass)! When we doing it again?

It certainly was a great weekend. Many, many thanks to Ian and Debbie for the Barbie and sorting out our bed for the night.
