Anyhow back to the thread .

i use the private slip at South Gare marine club at Teesmouth Redcar ,,we did have it open for public launching at one time but after a number of serious accidents/incidents with non members having launched, we decided to have it club member use only.
i also use the free public slips at Redcar itself from time to time depending on which boat i am going to use .

one advantage the club slip is usually well maintained .

There are very few (public) places to launch around Hull. Even Hull Marina doesn't have a slip.
You can rent a key from Humber Rescue for their hard at the Humber Bridge.
There are commercial launch facilities on the East coast at Hornsea and just South of Bridlington (as well as the harbour) who will launch and recover you with a tractor.

It was on my to do list to look at trying to launch from this slip. I had the feeling they let the public launch here at weekends. Is that now definitely not the case.

I use Bridlington fairly regularly. (Diving Bridlington Bay) Good tractor launching there.

I have used Hornsea once and when they asked me to drive the RIB up the cobble beach, I didn't do it with enough vigour. The guy in the tractor gave me a bit of a roasting cos the RIB turned sideways at the end. IT still doesnt seem right driving a RIB up a cobble beach.

I presume the Humber Bridge slip way is useable by the public for a fee payment?

Yes. It's owned/looked after by Humber Rescue but they do rent keys to the public. It's about £45 a year IIRC. I don't think you can 'pay as you launch' as it's not a manned station.
It can be tricky at times as it's only concrete for the first 10 metres or so then it's mud/shingle with some big rocks lurking around ready to put a nice ding in your prop. A 4x4 is essential!
You're launching at right angles to the tidal stream so it's interesting during mid tide flows. If there's anything more than a gentle W or SW then you get breaking waves on the shore too, which adds to the fun.
It's about 45mins-1hour@20-25kts to get to open sea from the bridge.

Hi Gary ,You have to be a club member now ,that came about around 4 or 5 years ago .
works out at around £50. per year for membership unless your a diving club then its a bit more, you get use of a tractor if needed .and another £100 to keep you boat in the yard though there is now a waiting list for that .
Jet skies and kayaks are forbidden on the slipway owing to the port regulations
with exception of Rnli ones that use the slip for training purposes from time to time .

Yes, though it usually goes up a couple of quid each year .

The club slip should hopefully be more sheltered in the future from northerly winds and seas eventually if they build a concreate jetty to replace the wooden one that the pilots use, especially now the old lifeboat slipway has been demolished too .
you will be at the Tees B,S,A,C dive club just past the pilot station in the old military police station or whats left of it .

Hello Norman, when the old tub is working I launch my RIB from, Whitby, South Shields, Beadnell, Seahouses and the beach at Dunbar.

I have taken it further afield such as Mull but South Shields is my local stomping ground.
I am toying with the idea of putting it in a marina for the summer months next year.

I mainly go diving but I have been known for days out with the missus and daughter on the farnes photographing puffins, (not often enough though).

Where do you launch from?
