!!RIBS in the North East!!

Hi

Do we have any rib members from the n.e. of england as a newbie to ribs (4mt Humber with 40hp Mariner engine) it would be nice to be out on the sea with other ribs users.
If so can i ask you where you launch from,

how often do you go out is there any clubs in the area,

What do you use your rib for ie fun diving etc.

Seems to be a great shortage of ribs in the North East, I think you're about the nearest to me and I don't count as mine's still a pile of pieces! I'm in Hull by the way, have asked this before is there wnyone else from the Hull area here?

I see lots on the road in the N.E. surely they are not all passing through

I am also based in the Newcastle and launch from South Shields, Derwenthaugh and often keep the boat at North Shields. New boat arrives Friday so will be looking to do a few trips before the winter really lands.

Hi

I live close to Derwenthaugh slip but its a long way up the river
i think it will take about a hour at legal speed to get to the sea.

I have paid a harbour fee of £38 + deposit of £15 for a key at Seaton Sluice
harbour and you get straight on the sea.

I agree its a long run, I only launch at derwenthaugh when we ski or when I am putting the boat into the water for a number of days, otherwise I am in and out at South Shields. Are there tidal restrictions at Seaton Sluice?

I guess you must have bought the Black Humber that was at Seaton Sluice in August. Good looking boat if thats the one.

We may well be out on Sunday if the weather is bright.

You can get out 3 hour each side of high tide.
The rib we got from Stokesley about 6/8 weeks ago
the only place we have used it to date is on a reservoir as safety cover so we are looking forward to going on the sea.

The rib didn't cost a lot of money when we got it back home i removed some old patches from the tubes Looked like they had used evostick household glue and asked some advice from Alan at Reiver boats in Stanley Co Durham the best way to repair the tubes.

We carried out the repairs and the tubes hold the air fine now, the engine
is fine just a little tuning and she running O.K.

We fitted new steering box & cable & i am waiting for a fish finder/gps coming mail order.

Hope to get out Sunday too weather permitting

If you fancy heading down to Teesside, it's easy enough (and free) to launch off the slipways at Redcar or Saltburn (providing there's no surf). It's then decent ride down past the cliffs to Staithes (11NM) or Whitby. More than happy to team up if people fancy a trip down.

Beadnell - about two miles south of Seahouses, is a big launch site for RIBs. Mostly for divers visiting the Farne Islands. The barrier is open Easter to the end of October, and on summer weekends it can get very very busy. There's a tractor service for launching via the beach.

I've also seen quite a few launching from Seahouses itself. I think this also has 'seasonal' opening hours.

We have a wee cottage at Sandsend near Whitby. Which is the closest, cheapest launch point for a 6.5M?

You can launch at Whitby harbour all year round. Its a good wide slip with water washdown (take your own hose and tap connector).Slip "dries" (drops off into the mud !) LW +/- 1.5hrs.
Directions are on boatlaunch and harbour master is very friendly.

Hi there - I am in Newcastle.
Use the South Shields slipway, and will be wetting the latest Rib sometime soon, hopefully before Christmas !
Got to run in the new engine for 10 hours or so, so I suspect some pottering up the river at first.

We launch from Whitby & Seahouses, both good slips as long as you avoid the bottom of springs.

We launch from Amble, the slip next to the marina.

Its not a bad slip and easy to launch a couple of hours either side of high water, just have to go the wrong way round the ridiculous roundabout to get the right angle to reverse down.
