Difficult question that.Worth a LONG read via the search facility. Particualrly here:-

I'd describe them as 'Europlastic Med boats'. They haven't really been around for long, and they aren't the kind of rufty tufty boat that seems to feature in refurb threads-(nobody seems to refurb Pro Opens,Avon 560s or any other similar boat either). Ie, once they lose the initial shineyness, they won't be worth much.

More seaworthy ribs have race or commercial heritage in their hull design.Nothing you're looking at so far has either, and you're not going to like them much in rougher weather whereas I'd be passing you airborne with a grin on my face and a drysuit on in a Searider,RC585,Osprey etc to name but 3.

If you asked 'Would it be better than the Dauntless' I'd only say 'maybe'. I'd say the same about the Pro 550 Open as well-though I'd be more likely to buy the Zodiac.

"Brakes disconnected" This is a bad thing. The drum machine surfaces will be rusted, but worst case scenario, complete axle assembly......around £450.

I have a freelander 2 for towing! what else can people recommend for about 12k I don't know what the best 'brands' are to look out for.

Everyone will recommend what they've bought......justify their own choice. However I'd say don't get annal about what year the boat is. It's not a second hand car you're buying and it's condition and providence are more important than the HIN. A decent outboard is good for between 2000 & 3000 hours and for your typical leisure user that's probably somewhere between 30 & 40 years. Commercial use aside you would struggle to find an engine that had just plain "worn out". They die from lack of maintenance, bad maintenance or abuse.
You've got the car to tow it so I'd go for something a bit bigger if you ever want to load in 7 people. The boat in the link above is 9.7K. Even if you had to buy a new trailer for it, your 12K budget is still in scope and the first time it turns nasty out there (and one day it will) that extra metre and bit of weight will be a godsend. I paid 10.5K for "Hebridean Storm" (6.5 Mtr RCD Cat B, picture on my profile) add £500 for trailer refurb, £500 for new fuel tank & £900 for new 6hp Merc aux. and what I have now I certainly wouldn't swap for some of the suggestions you've come up with, regardless of age. I'v been out in the Minch in a very pretty Seapro 520 and had a right hammering. It was a nice boat but just wasn't meant to be used for that. IMO if you're going to get enough use out of a boat to justify the money tied up in it, you have to be able to use it when the weather is less than perfect and that means the right gear and the right boat.

Yeh. When you get to the bottom of it you'll probably find it's just a plain scam. The adverts will be for boats they sold months ago and they re-run them at ridiculously low prices to generate income on their premium rate numbers.

It's not, they're a 'we will ship boat to you' in a thick Ukranian/Nigerian accent scam.

If you can find an early Ribcraft 585 it'll be just in your 12k budget though, and the Ribeye (though it'll old and have PVC tubes so I'd avoid) will be too.

It's a well known scam.Been going on for years.

There's people around who wind the scammers up for fun
