Trent plastics have reasonable prices, conveyor belt grips a bit rubber and rope mix, HDPE bit like ice

You need something with a bit of give. Have to think where I can get HDPE from.
Like Jeff says.

I just got some 25mm HDPE sheet from Trent Plastics who also sell on eBay. Not sure it's as soft as you think, nylon might be better? Local supermarket might have a 6mm chopping board you can bend with applied heat?

I know that there are also ppipes made of MDPE (water mains) would you know if MDPE would aslo be suitable, not sure of the difference between the 2 in terms of hardness,

Best approach IMO would be to ring sbs and get a price for a galvinised x member to suit your trailer with two fixing u bolts and a nice wide keel roller ,alternately buy a 2metre piece of 60 x 40 x3mm galvanised rhs and make one yourself ,position so you are higher than the axle but lower than the swingers ! ,if you are going to send for galvanising yourself make sure you have no paint on the metal otherwise they will charge addition for shot blast !

I have already been to SBS, their rollers expect to be fitted to square section tube, not the axle.

They suggested pop-riveting on the following

MDPE will scratch easier than HDPE - whether that matters, at least in the short-medium term is a different question.

I have ordered a piece of 15mm thick HDPE
I could just cable-tie on, but will try and find an adhesive .... be good if I can get a flexible rubber or silicon style adhesive ....
I am aware that you need to heat treat the surface with heat gun to de-wet the surface prior to bonding.
I have some 3M 5200 which bonds most things marine, but don’t think it suits HDPE.

Anybody know of a silicone or adhesive.?

Nothing sticks to HDPE (well not quite nothing - but near as well). There is one expensive specialist glue (it sticks to other plastics not sure about metal), and needs very good surface prep. I've used sikaflex to create a seal, but I could easily peel it off - so not for an application where it carries a load. If you really want to have "fun" you can "weld" it.

(My whole boat is HDPE)

I know of one .... ‘Mr Stick’s Poly Bond’
Just trying to see if anything cheaper, or maybe something I have.

No more nails, Sticks like S***t, etc.

yeah I think there are 2 or 3 different brands of essentially the same stuff, none cheap, and not easy to just pick up in the hardware store/chandler either

no - none of your traditional glues will work - even epoxy and sikaflex which in my experience stick to everything! Annoyingly some of these things actually look like they've stuck but debond with very little force after several days.

3M do a product - I think it's Scotch Weld? IIRC it was about £30/tube last time I looked!

Scotch Weld is a sub-brand, large number of glues are Scotch-Weld something.

I’ll try asking 3M. - Thnx

off the web

Cyanoacrylates Cyanoacrylate adhesives
Cyanoacrylates. Cyanoacrylate adhesives can be used along with primer Permabond POP. Cyanacrylates set almost instantly and provide good adhesion to HDPE provided the surface is pre-treated with Permabond POP primer. The bonds have good resistance to non-polar solvents but do not fair as well with polar solvents.

Cyanoacrylate adhesives = Superglue
I have had very poor experience of this type of adhesive, and I think very thin film adhesive not ideal in this situation ..... will continue to try find rubber flexible type.
The 'Mr Sticky's Poly Bond' seems best option so far, found a 3M variant but 3X the cost.
Maybe I'll try fixing with cable ties first see what fixing is like.

I assume the axle is uniform, so you could clamp a keel roller to it - it would point up at 45deg:

Had a reply from Everbuild / Sika support .... they do not have an adhesive that will work with HDPE. Standard Hi-grab adhesive sealant will initially work, but the HDPE will form a new surface and bond will fail.
