Hmm starting to worry about this a little - I bought my Mercury 20HP EFI new from Excel in the summer of 2020. Took the boat out yesterday for the first time this year and noticed some irregular revs... seemed to rev up and down a lot. I put it down to using it for the first time for a while other than running it on idle every now and then (or possibly from using fuel from last year?).
Through this clip my hand on the throttle was totally still - about 1/4 throttle, 5-6 knots.

I took a video to check at home but also found that the engine was shaking a bit too.. does this look dodgy to you guys?

Difficult to tell much from that clip Tonus. You have to remember that an OB will react differently from sib to sib let alone from sib to rib. However if you feel that there is excessive vibration there is no harm in taking the OB into a Barrus /Mercury dealer. The service bulletin 2020-14 tells dealers that if a customer notices excessive vibration they are to change the mounts and damper under warranty.
You will certainly be able to tell when the mounts have failed, the OB behaves like a bucking bronko and bounces so much you have to strap it up and proceed at 2 or 3 knots, not an experience I'd ever want to have again.
I have to complement Barrus/Mercury on there customer service. When I changed my 15 EFI to a 20 EFI, I asked if the mounts could be changed even though I wasn't experiencing any vibration, with no hesitation the parts were at the dealership within a couple of days.
I did notice, and it's probably the angle from which the video was taken, but your OB looks very close under the transom as though it's on the first trim hole, not that it would cause any more vibration.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Steve. Really difficult to tell if there’s too much vibration because I have nothing to compare it to! None of my mates are into boats and I’ve learned what I have on my own and on this forum, and on YouTube…
There has always been a degree of vibration, even when I’m flushing at home. I assumed that this was just par for the course for a big lump of machinery. It’s probably fine… I’m more concerned with the issue of the revs going up and down. I started another post on here to see if I could get some advice.
Regarding the hole that the engine is trimmed to - it seems to be the right spot as the boat handles best and the bow doesn’t lift too much… it’s just a bit more than parallel to the hull but should it be parallel to the water when planing? Cheers

The OB will always vibrate, as you say, it's a big unbalanced lump!
If you've still got the manual that came with your Merc, take a look at page 46 re: trim positon
I think it was chipko who took his 20hp efi in and got the mounts changed just in case, the way I think about it is, if Barrus have acknowledged a possible problem and have the solution, then get it done prior to it happening.
I'll reply on your post re:r tevs up and down
Did you ever get some Beachmaster wheels?

Thanks Steve yes I’ve seen that in the manual and tweaked the trim position last year. Perhaps it’s worth a re-look.
Yes I did get the Beachmaster types from Chas N Marine but not fitted them just yet. I launched with the big 350mm’s a couple of days ago and was glad of the size but they still feel dodge every time I use them! I’ll report back on your Beachmaster Types thread, thanks again
