Wow. You're not kiding! That's about a million times better than Google! Especially helped by the fact the photos seem to have been taken at low tide on a clear day, wheras the google ones show an incredibly muddy river at high tide!

Two things jump out at me at the moment:
1) the bit that supposedly dries out looks pretty harmless i nthe pics.
2) there is absolutely no sign of the Clacks bridge, or the works associated with it, so I reckon those photos are at least 5 years old - how much has it all shifted?

It does, however amply demostrate the "rapids" I was told about!

I shall go & compare with notes & charts (agian).

Looking at the bing map makes you want to keep the trailer strapped onto the keel so we can roll up river!
I can't wait but bagsey me not to go first up the river......

SPR - what day - tonight? I am still in the process of collating the info I've pulled together. Will try to finalise it at Lunchtime having seen the Bing Satellite photos. I;ll email to to you so you amend / correct it or add anything to the discussion if it's tonight. I might manage tomorrow, but tonight I can't make.

Macattack-
Assuming the bottom hasn't moved that much since the chart was made and having studied a couple of the "rapids" in closeup I actually wonder if some of them are just the sun sparkling off a bit of water disturbed by a gust of wind. - There are definite "dots" versus "lines" comparing known rapids to ones that supposedly have a metre or so depth at low tide according to the chart. Having said that, corners of the river haven't been surveyed since about 1975, so movement of mud is likely.

I do still wonder if an Avon Redstart isn't the best boat for this escapade!

The marks on the water may be sunlight or wind but the pics were not at high tide so we should be ok.
I cant make the brief on Fri so can someone brief the ribs at PE on Sat mprning.

Highly unlikely I can make Friday now, so will see you all on Saturday morning.

Thought for those with premix engines: As I doubt we'll be going very fast above Alloa and probably not above Kinkardine, is anyone planning on carrying a small tank of "premix lite"? I'm thinking 20 L or so of 75:1 to prevent plug fouling - it's not like we're going to be able to open up for a couple of mins to clean the plugs or anything....

Hi All,
Hope it's not too late to join you on Sat for the trip up to Stirling.
There would be two of us and we would plan to launch and return Sat at PE.
Could probably make the Carron Sea Lock meeting on Friday too.
Cheers
John

not to late, just turn up on day! or at the meeting on Friday, but suggest you turn up on Saturday too....or meeting on Friday is pointless...but you can turn up on Saturday without going to meeting on Friday!

Hope that clears things!

I've been roped into safety boat duties tomorrow at Aberdour for their Jubilee sail past, so will sadly miss the Stirling cruise. Hope your trip goes well! On the bright side I won't be flushing the mud out of my motor. Enjoy :-)
