South coast accommodation?

Hi all

I'm looking at taking the SIB away for a bit of coast / estuary hopping sometime in September.
Can anyone recommend any suitable accommodation near a slipway for launching?

As I plan on staying for several nights, ideally it would be either near a marina for leaving overnight, or close enough to the accommodation to wheel back to the carpark?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Leigh

The cottages at Mylor marina come to mind. Very close to slipway and pontoons. It's on the very short shortlist for our 2024 holiday.

BTW welcome to the forum.

Hi Leigh and welcome,

As well as Mylor suggest by Fenlander, very nice cottages and you can leave your sib on the visitor pontoons (chargeable). You could also try St Mawes. If you manage to book a cottage have a word with the harbour master as I've heard you can leave a sib overnight for a fee.

If you are more specific about the part of the South cost that would help

Good point.
Travelling from Midlands so reasonably flexible - ideally anything between Hayling Island and Plymouth.

RIBase
To be fair - there are plenty of options. Those with navigatable rivers and estuaries gives the best back up plans should the sea be blown out (so long as they have enough water).

I'd be looking at (in no perticular order)
Torquay - plenty of coast line, great harbour and car parks but no river to play in. Tourist central so loads of accomadation options.

Dartmouth - not far from Torquay, and with a sib could always carry over if too blown out to travel by sea or its ideal to base there. Superb estuary, river and plenty to see and do.

Plymouth - a great option, rivers, the Sound itself, and lots of coastline. The town itself has plenty to do if its really grim too. Lots of marina options as well as air bnbs and camp sites locally.

Fowey - river, estaury and sea, in river moorings and they ferry you in and out.

Mevagissy - great to visit, nice to see, but if blown out, you're done.

Mylor / Falmouth - a superb area, rivers and coast line to explore, again lots of accomadation, marinas in both and I really enjoy Mylor.

If you have a look at some of the trip reports on here, theres a few plymouth ones to read and look at - I wrote one last week. I think they'll be a Falmouth one too.

Thanks Steve, loved your videos - you've got an extra subscriber!

Just what I had in mind - did you stay locally in Mylor (dog friendly)?

Have a look at The Mountbatten centre in Plymouth. Large slipway into the water opposite Queen Anne’s battery marina and Cattedown. They have accommodation there on site. I’ve used the slipway, but not the facilities. It would give you the Tamar and Lhyner river to explore, plus Plymouth Sound and beyond.
