Faded Tubes - insurance claim?

Looking for a view on this. I have an Avon 560 which is dark blue of course. Tubes were excellent and shiny until I moved the rib to south of France a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately whilst in storage the cover blew off and has been subject to direct sun. Tubes now look terrible very faded unevenly- I've tried all the cleaners, revivers etc mentioned on here and haven't helped at all.
Thinking of selling as it is ( has a super Yamaha 80 four stroke) but crosses my mind I might be able to make an insurance claim.
Any thoughts??
Cheers

They're going to call it "owner neglect" and say no.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with some soap. It'll sand a layer of material off and it should help even it out.

I would ask your insurance company rather than here, all they can say is no. I do suspect they will say no but it is best if you ask.

Have you tried toluene?

No what is it? The damage is pretty bad although tube integrity is fine. Is there any way of re- colouring them?Click image for larger version

Try toluene, that is proper hypalon thinners. Use it on somewhere underneath first and do not scrub it in, put it on a good lint free cloth and wipe. Colour will come off your tubes so don't be alarmed. If that helps then you can use normal hypalon cleaner and a white 3m scouring pad and elbow grease if you need to without much problem. Ribshop will have all the stuff

After toluene you will HAVE to put a sealer on again.

RIBase
As I understand it, to make a successful claim, and "event" has to happen.
I don't think "me cover blew of" qualifies-do you?

Thanks for that. What would you seal with 303?

Brian. You may be right I'll be calling them shortly. Haven't got the details with me. But I have to say I have seen some pretty spurious claims that have been met in full. Friend Jin in south of France recently wiped the bottom of his boat off on a clearly marked wreck, whatcha was also clearly visible above water too , and they paid several thousand out so you never know!

I would call ribstore and just buy white 3m pads, toluene and hypatec, it worked well on my old Avon adventure.

Before doing it I would ask your insurance though.

Difference there is that your friend's claim was property damage due to a collision, which along with liability/property damage to others claims, is one of the typical types of insurance claims. I wouldn't consider your friends claim to be "spurious"... rather it would seem to be one the primary reasons to carry insurance in the first place.

Whereas your faded tube problem is akin to something like paint fading on an automobile... no auto insurer is going to pay a claim for faded paint on a car, any more than they would pay for an engine giving up the ghost. Which reminds me of a situation Ford Motor Co. found themselves in a couple decades ago, where they had a paint peeling issue with quite a few of their cars & pickup trucks (which were painted silver). The issue was that during production, FMC using a base coat that didn't adhere properly to the silver top coat. Long story short, FMC paid to have those vehicles repainted, despite many of them being long out of the factory warranty period (likely due to a class action lawsuit).

How long was the cover off? That looks like long term ageing to me.

Maybe there's hope for your "claim" then!

You might try leather dye. There was a thread on this somewhere.

I'd say you've got Zero chance of claiming for that sort of Long term U.V. damage...brought about (by your own) simple lack of care.... and neglegance where a simple cover may well have saved them.
There are some pretty good Hyperlon paints out there, that would make her more presentable, but they would only be a temporary fix...and with your present maintenance/care schedule you'd soon be "in the same Boat"

Now...if someone had,or were...to maliciously damage them...you'd probably get a re-tube.
Funny old world!

Hilarious old world. Obviously if "someone" were to maliciously damage them, our respective insurances would all go up that tiny little bit. And if more "I'm all right Gov!" wide boys did the same - we'd take an even bigger hit.

I'm not too bothered though - I can just send the invoice to the Afterlife...

No intention of doing anything nefarious. Quite happy to take the hit as just one of those things, I have never made an insurance claim other than vehicle related, so not something I usually do, but it was mentioned by the dealer who is currently storing the rib in France
It wasn't long term neglect- simply the cover blew off whilst in storage( I was home only use the boat 2 weeks a year). And the yard didn't deal with it.
Anyway thanks for the advice- I've had some decent offers for it as is, so will probably sell. Tim
