Ribeye for sale claims 70mph top end

http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F99528

This advert is claiming 70mph+ topspeed, Im not sure it would even do the 62mph? Is this possible or is the guy talking rubbish, I thought Phantom Evolutions only did around 68mph,they are not going to be slower than a Ribeye surely?

That's with a 225, so the extra HP on the Ribeye might just do the job. I believe that the 750/760 sport has a planing pad so it'll be quite quick, maybe high 60's although 70 might be just a tiny little bit optimistic I reckon! But I'm just guessing here... go test drive

No Chance. A Phantom 18 with 235hp would just nudge 70mph and that weighed about the same as the lardy seats in this thing! Anyway, don't Ribeyes fall to bits over 50mph?

My 750 has recorded 42 knots on the gps as a max speed. ,i hasten to add i haven't seen that speed myself yet,but i do wonder if 100hp more could give 26knots extra!Sounds a bit optimistic but then it does seem a quick planing hull.

I didn't post this to start a slagging off match of Ribeyes, they may not be my thing, everyone is entitled to spend their money on what they wish.
However, 70mph not a chance! My moneys on 60mph tops, maybe 62mph absolute max. As Alice mentions there are many hard boats that won't touch that speed.

We sold our cobra last year a 7.5 with a 225 Yamaha F/Stroke
When the guy asked how fast it was, i said quick but you can check the GPS
fastest speed should be on it. he did and was shocked when he saw 65 knts.
now i know that even with a rocket pack it wouldant do 50
then my son noticed that we had left the unit on when towing the boat home
hope hes not too disapointed.
do you think this man with the ribeye as done the same ?

Send a message via Skype™ to benc

Doesnt that have a detrimental effect on speed?

Our Phantom was an ex-ski race rig with cable steering. It was hairy as hell when it got airbourne. We had a cable let go at 50ish, it spat us clean out!

yer and pigs fly the rib might do 55, look at all the seats and extra weight. i use to drive a cougar 7.5 with a 225 on the back and that did 65 at best low fuel etc etc. plus its such a shit rib it would fall apart if it ever got there

Nope, a well polished gelcoat hull does though.

unlikely it would reach 70 mph.

i have a 750 with F225 and I think my max is 56 mph, so that one with a bigger engine should reach 62 mph. As Richard says, the planing pad on the race hull helps a lot.

...and for the record, these RIB's are well built, quality boats with excellent performance. They do not fall apart.

I did my PB2 in a small Ribeye - the instructor is a bit of a nutter and loves wave jumping - we had a great time and were airbourne quite a bit - nothing broke - no nasty rattles and the RIB has been in hard use for 3 years now.
