It’s all about common sense! I see no risk in driving a hundred miles without stopping, get out of car, walk to boat and out to sea. Far less risk than walking to local beauty spot where there are a hundred people. Unfortunately the rules are on the assumption that people need to be told what to do so I have to stay put until the scientists say it’s safe

I think the argument with that one is what if you crash on the way, or need to stop at service station for a piss etc

As of the 29th March you can use your boat with the same household so long as it is not a long drive

As of the 12th April you can use your boat and stay over on it so long as it is a self contained unit and the same household.

Having a bussiness that has worked throughout I'm fully aware of the need for public safety. My point was if it is deamed safe by the government to meet other people from outside of your own household then surely it is safe to go out on your boat with only your own household.

....life is about so much more than just existing.....especially in a constant state of Fear!
I suggest Social distancing and safty protocols are one thing ...and should largely be observed...but Life should and ultimately WIIL go on!...and compared to other pandemics previous generations have faced this one has been RELATIVELY benign.

We can't throw the Baby out worth the Bathwater....or allow our hard fought for Freedomes to be erroded by others with more nefarious agenda.
I got out a few times last year including a week in Scotland and a long weekend in Cornwall and the Scillies...all within the rules!
I took the opportunities as the arose....whilst many stayed at home worrying!
Great breaks that gave great pleasure and many bennifits at the time.....Time that won't pass by again!
So my advice is ...use you're own judgment! ....and when appropriate and lawful ...Go for it!
You only get so many chances!

I do know how I prefer to live my life that's for sure....too many Lemmings don't make for good discourse in my experience....but hey it's ALL about personal choice ...
We do now after a huge international effort have a range of viable Vacines....(despite what some have said!! ) with a WORLD BEATING! roll out regime which is nailing the numbers every day....
if you prefer to revel in doom and gloom (there's always "Prozac") and can't see (or more likely choose NOT to see) the truth out there good luck with it...BUT....
If you want a risk free existence AND ALL THAT GOES WITH IT ...YOU may be locked down for.....quite some time

Just because I have an opinion doesn't mean I'm rebellious or breaking any rules! Neither was I suggesting anyone else did. Luckily the authorities you refer to have now deamed it ok to open marinas and take your boat out so hopefully we can talk about boats again and not pandemics.

I know this thread was initiated by Lakeland re getting out on the sea but I was interested to get an email from the Environment Agency rivers division as I'm registered with them.

Pleased to say for all UK rivers they have very clear advice which start with the rules that would have allowed me on the local rivers from 8th March which is great as I want to get out for an initial shakedown of my new outfit. They will allow...

8th March: Open boat in local area for day use with household.

29th March: Use expended to open or enclosed boats for single household. Minimise travel and still no overnights.

12th April: Use expanded to stay overnight but still minimal travel and single households on boat.

17th May: Still minimise travel but now two households in an enclosed boat and unlimited mixing on an open boat up to its capacity.

21st June: Do as you like?

NB: Dates will obviously flex if Gov roadmap flexes.

Again we are using the term "minimal travel" which is only enforceable until the legislations expires on 29 March. After 29 March there is no legal restriction on travel as long as you do not stay away and follow "guidance".

Still, good news for those on UK rivers controlled by the EA.

I'm surprised by the advice as the legislation requires everyone to stay at home except for essential journeys / reasons, although I think "essential" is being more loosely interpreted than a year ago.

Yes even if the minute detail can be puzzled over it is good they have given very specific guidance which I can meet while getting out locally in the timescale we need.

For me it was important they officially released river use as I need to book day licences and obviously if they were not wanting folks on the river and not issuing any licences that would be a problem.

The RYA has produced a Covid roadmap which is quite useful. Minimising travel is with us until 17th May at the earliest but recreational boating with caveats is permitted from 8th March.

I find myself agreeing with SR / BP. I'm not following the rules specifically for my benefit but for the good of everyone.
