Am I right in my interpretation of the easing of COVID restrictions for recreational RIB users

Until 29 March - Stay at home, no unnecessary travel - which includes going any distance to your boat / trailering it etc... (as my boat's on the drive currently "recreation / exercise" with it is overridden by the current no unnecessary travel)

From 29 March - Stay at home lifted but domestic travel "minimised" so can you move / use boat following social distancing rules etc...?

From 12 April - all domestic travel restrictions lifted so can go out as "normal".

I'm unclear on what we can do 29 March-11 April. Does anyone know yet? I've not seen anything clear.

Yes, that 2-week gap does appear to be a bit of a grey area - and you can bet your life the weather will be glorious!

In this period I'm expecting a new SIb and hopefully another motor to set up and test which I intend to do on the local river initially. The EA are unclear as of today exactly when they can sanction leisure river use restarting.

I've read and re-read the .gov info and reckon 29th March onwards is safe for me with just a 15min run to the river.... not sure about our near two hour run to launch at the coast though.

dunno about you guys, but "rowing" and "sailing" are allowed in Scotland. I'll be taking a bedsheet and some paddles to cover both bases when I take the boat out...

I've a 2 3/4 hour run each way to get the boat on to the dock at Brixham Not sure if I can do that on 29 March or have wait until 12 April.

Whatever the answer the I'm sure weather and tides will be great when I can't do it, and be rubbish when I can!

As I understand it the period from the 29th - 12th is fine for being out and about, but not staying away - so no over nights in the local B & B.

Day trips with the boat, on the current guidance, will be fine - I'm working on being out and about for Easter.

The bit I'm unsure about is "minimum domestic travel" in that period - that has a raft of interpretation

Travelling in you're Private Bubble in a Motor for essential maintainance or to carry out mechanical checks ....and social distancing for excercise ...(while you are in the area

You'll always get some busy body Arses who look to find reasons to pour cold water on you're actions but that's always been the case.
Mind you ....you could also be "Testing your eyesight"!

It's ridiculous, from the 8th March school parents can que up outside the gate together you are allowed to meet another person for a picnic, non essential shops like go outdoors are open yet marinas could remain closed !

It's not totally clear yet is it

I think the determining factor will be MDL's view plus that of Torbay HA on access / use of slips...wait out.....

Anyway I've re-arranged my holiday backlog for w/c 12 April

No problem with MDL down here Bob.

Was on the boat this afternoon with a chap from Dart sails looking at making a cockpit tent, no problem with access. I haven't taken her out this lockdown, but I've not seen anything from the marina to stop me if I wanted to.

There's been a few boats and jet skis using the slip also.

Hi Pete,
Glad all is well with you. I'll take a view on when to bring her down. We will e certainly be down for a week from 12 April, so maybe we can get out for a run or 2 during that week let's hope it will more successful than last April's shakedown

Because I live close to Teignmouth, I could go out at anytime, but the weather has been pretty much continuos poo since late December !

However, I think you are correct with the 12th April as you 'go' date for longer journeys.

Annoyingly, the weather has a couple of nice days nest week, but I am reluctant to go out as I have eye surgery (cataracts) late next week and I don't want to take any chances of scuppering it, also, my eyesight is pretty bad at the moment.

If my mate goes out on his offshore 25 next week then I might just join him as the boat is big enough to social distance.

It'll be good to see you when your down Bob.

I'm hoping to get out for a run soon, just to check everything thing out. Definitely hope it's not a repeat of last April.

With everywhere shut there's not been much incentive to go out recently,so I'm looking forward to things being relaxed and having a destination to go to.
Hopefully if things become more normal later in the year I'll get some of the longer trips in that I've got planned.

Not forgetting Andy's outings of course.

Over Easter the gov would like us to continue to work from home if we can and stay at home or at least local as much as possible, there is a real fear that there could be another peak at the very time when hospitals are starting to get caught up

Personally I would think that driving a moderate distance to go boating is acceptable during this time, but I am certain there will be more detailed guidance closer to the time

In short whatever you are planning for Easter should involve no more than 6 people, be a day trip and be able to change plans if things are not going as hoped
