PROPER rescue RIB FOUND!!

AT LAST!!

Just bought this morning a rescue RIB 5.30 - papers say 5.10 (for less than Euro 8000!!) made by WATERCRAFT with a 40 bhp Johnson heavy duty and self righting gear, 3x70 ltr plastic tanks, fuel water separator, jockey consol with main bat switch and some basic instruments (will need to fit a VHF (DSC), GPS (Map) and possibly a Radar).
The RIB (red/orange..ish colour with red/orange..ish tubes) was built in 1999 has self draining deck and it was used as a life saving boat on a ship. Boat (hull and tubes are in excellent condition) and engine have ZERO water hours.
The boat and engine and all equipment onboard are certified by Lloyd's, SOLAS and someone else who I don't remember that all gear is suitable to be used for rescue/life saving operations (the engine apparently can work after the boat has gone over and has certification for that). The boat is licensed to carry a max number of six.
Tomorrow will get some photos (as it is still in the Watercraft boat building shed for some minor cosmetic touches) and hopefully you can all tell me what you think of it.
Now looking for a trailer and found one in Greece for Euro 500, brand new placed the order and is just being built!!

Hi Jono

There are not 8 mtr Cat A (or B possibly) SOLAS and Lloyd's certified rescue RIBs (so they tell me) so I got this one. The Coatsguard is happy, I don't complain since is less money for me!!

PS Just for the history of this I was negotiating a brand new BWM hul 8.5 mtrs in Greece for Euro 13000 Brand new (apparently the builders here have bought one of the moulds when the company closed down. However, there was no way that the boat would get certified by Lloyd's and SOLAS as a rescue craft cat B or A (and this is requirement if you operate a rescue/life saving RIB)

How fast is a 40hp motor going to push that rib fully kitted out?

Hi SimmonS

They tell me 25-28 knots at WOT 20-23 cruising and 12-15 at gale force conditions but I hope that I don't have to use it or check it out

SimmonS is exactly for that.

Sonam there are quite a few societies that they do that like Lloyd's, BV, ABS, Der Norske, Nippon Kaiki Kiokai (the Japs), Hellenic Reg of Shipping, etc.

1st edit: I will take photos today and get all the paper work and will tell you exactly what is what. But is certainly is Lloyd's and SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) that are bodies that surveyed this particular boat and issued the appropriate certificates.

2nd edit: I want to clarify that the classification socieities certify the category of the boat (A or B or C) abd also certify the engine that can operate in extreme conditions, where as SOLAS has to do with the safety issues of the safety equipment on board.
A PROPER Life Saving RIB (same as they have on ships or the Coast Guard) MUST pass and have both a class and SOLAS certificates.

I don't think you have any chance of realising these speeds on a 40hp.
I only have one 70l tank and no self righting kit and get 28 and a bit WOT and 22 loaded with a 60hp on the same boat length. The boat will also have some water hours, they need to test the boat every month and usually blast them around the harbour for a half hour or so.

Hi Manos
Yep the Watercraft are good Noggie boats.
As for speed we used to have one that size on one of the survey boats yep it was OLD but it always came back - useful on a rescue boat
It was slower than the 8m inflatable with a 27hp yamar diesel out board
Please confirm that our old one was knackered and that we were right in offloading it !!

Have fun in the Sun!!

Thanks Rupert for the info.
However, this is what the manufacturer said to me. I have now all papers (just paid the full amount) but they are in Greek. So even if I show you it will not mean much to you. In any case will have to check it out when I put her in the water.
The boat needs to be surveyed every year (not month).
The boat has papers from Lloyd's and the Hellenic Register of Shipping also is SOLAS certified.
I got some photos today and will post them in a sec.

Jono it looks fine to me.

In an immergency the priority is the to save the people the boats.

In any case the RIBs are fully insured so they can sink if that is what it takes. I really don't care.

This RIB is VERY GOOD, strongly built, has a great engine and it can sail in ANY weather.

Its purpose is to save lives not boats.

Don't understand this one?

As you may notice the reflective tapes are not on yet. But you can distinguish the marks where they had been.

WATERCRAFT in Greece have been excellent (actually they have been FANTASTIC).
They surveyed and repair anything that needed doing, changed the battery, switches etc etc and they are also replacing the reflective tapes. Also the self riding gear will be surveyed and a new certificate will be issued. All this free of charge.
