It seemed odd the first name out of the bag was highfield imho
Only because I'm running one. Had my 6m 14 miles off shore and been more then capable in some pretty big seas.

There are plenty of others to choose from, but i can only comment on what I know from experience, not what I've read or what others think.

I guess it depends on what you call offshore. Fishing at 14 miles would be the inshore wrecks for me.

We often go out to the 50 mile wrecks in my Ribcraft 585 and we have returned in some quite lively 2m+ seas from time to time. Offshore to me is anything over 30 miles offshore. We sometimes see Humber's out there, but I cant remember ever seeing a Highfield or a Brig etc

Offshore

Maybe it would be useful to define "Offshore" before we all roll out of the pram?

I can't - but clearly miles offshore isn't the defining quality - I've accompanied an SR4 from Donegal to Islay (return trip in a day) but I wouldn't call it an offshore RIB. I was in a 6.5m Redbay and I'd say the same about it!

Range, seakeeping, reliability, nav & comms, safety gear, crew seating all have to contribute something.

I'd lean towards "A RIB capable of making a long passage in worse than expected conditions while keeping crew safe and (reasonably) comfortable, yet making useful progress"
