Mercury service agents and polybottles

Any recommendations for a Merc service agent around Southampton?

I'm also after some small waterproof bottles for spares and tools. They are about 30cm tall and 12cm diameter and similar material and colour to the large flare bottles. I can't find them anywhere, even though i've seen them on loads of RIBs.

Thanks,
Daniel

Mercury Service

Hi Daniel,

I would certainly recommend Lee at Faithweather Marine they are based in Fareham, so not too far away or speak to Rouge Wave he is in Southampton and might know some one.

Regards

Cheap/free alternative to polybottle

Pop into your local pharmacy and ask them for some spent tubs.
Tablets and creams that are dispensed come in bulk and the chemist usually just bins the emptys. They come in all shapes and sizes (but perhaps not as big as you want) and push-on air tight lids. Biggest I have seen is about 20cm dia x 20cm high. They are fuel and solvent (petrol, celulose thinners, meths, white spirit, brake fluid, engine/gear oil, grease, ATF and parafin tested so far) proof are great for storing bits and bobs on the boat and around the shed/garage. A retired chemist friend of mine even uses them for freezing food in.
Take all that are offered, you will find a use for them.

Thanks everyone.

I have orded a couple of the polybottles from Compass24 - they were exactly what I was looking for.

Kevin, I assume you meant Fairweather marine? Will give them a ring today.

Cheers
Daniel

Rocket Tubes

Yes you can pick up ex army rocket tubes, for I think Milan missiles cases. These are about 2 foot long and about 6 inch diam.

They are unbreakable and have a good lid with proper O ring seal.

I have used them on RIB's and for carrying camera gear potholing, and they never leak or break.

The other waterproof container from similar sources is ex army ammo boxs, but chack the lid seal as some dont seal fully or old..

You can pick them up for army surplus shops, or caving shops such as http://www.inglesport.com/ or http://www.berniescafe.co.uk/

They are very cheap, and last forever.

Regards Gary

Just got the boat back from Fairweather, they seem very good; reasonable price and very helpfull. The printout of engine hours at each RPM range is pretty handy.

Will take her for a spin at the weekend see how she runs.
