Full RIB refurb

Hi All, I'm finally getting a long-awaited refurb on my old Avon SR 4.0m - can't wait to get it back on the water. However, I've been asked one question and not sure which way to go. The question is "Do you want the flooding hull left open or sealed up?" I don't know if things have changed since I last used it (a long, long time ago) so happy to hear what you suggest. If I hadn't have had the option I would have been happy with the original setup.
Ade.

I think it'll depend on what you're doing with the rib, sat still fishing, safety cover, picnics it'll give you a better platform.

But people that have them will be able to give first hand pros and cons.

Not so sure having XS ribs in the title will help get the SR boys reading the thread though!!

guess it depends on how you plan on using your SR4 and what the refurb entails, my SR4 with flooding has a two person jockey seat, built in 90ltr fuel tank, anchor locker and Honda 50, no problems when I'm on my own but with two people it can be a struggle to get up on the plane, however so far its not been enough of an issue to make me consider blocking the hull

I should have said, its currently an SR but when its finished it will be XS. Shame really but they appear to have good feedback and price is right. I'm sure I read some good reviews on here a while back? Going to be changed from Deluxe version to two person jockey setup similar to Chris's setup but without the built-in tank.
Thanks for your thoughts - I think I'll stick with flooding.

I have left my 5.4 flooded all as original. The 2 stroke engine blasts it onto the plane.

Not really, It'll still be a SR, with SR shaped tubes and a SR ride.

I had my RIB retubed by XS this year very happy with the work etc. I would say it would be worth talking to the guys at XS about the pros and cons as in my experience they are very knowledgeable and always willing to give advice.

I know it will but it will have XS logo's on the tubes so yes, it will technically be an SR, but refurbed by XS.

That's why I've gone with them. I'll definitely discuss it with them too, I have plenty of time to decide but thought I'd mention it here to see if anyone had already been through the process and had any thoughts. I appreciate its not always easy to answer.

Can I ask why you would want XS logos on the tubes instead of getting XS to put on original (Avon) ones ?
Surely you still want it to be badged as a Searider ??
Just because XS are refurbishing / putting on new tubes doesn’t give them the right to ‘borrow’ the hull / history for their own promotion. Loads of hulls are refurbed / retubed by ‘outside’ companies but it’s the hull which normally dictates the ID of the rib, not who refurbs it.
Unless, of course, you really want an XS badged rib. I know which badge I’d rather have on it. (Not knocking XS’s work btw, I was very nearly going there myself).

Yep this is very true I've had hulls retubed by henshaws & Sit & both came back badged as original
Albeit with a discreet "retubed by" label on the sit ones but nothing at all on the henshaw ones apart from henshaw marked valve caps

Definitely keep the flooding hull!! It makes the SR4 sit in the water like a big boat.

It will still be an SR.

Don't compromise it's heritage by having XS branding on it. You are paying then for a re-tube - that they or others could do. It doesn't make it an XS rib.

XS RIBS are a good outfit- I like their boats, but you have an SR!

Good point. Of course I would prefer to keep the Avon badge but just assumed that wouldn't be possible. I'll have a word!

Done.

FWIW I'd block it up on an SR4. There's not that much to gain from having it open and the holeshot is great fun with nothing to drain.

Have a look waaay back at my old one-I set up a sort of flappy thing on it so it didn't fill instantly. It was a good compromise.
