Bow anchor line guide * advice needed *

Bought rubber anchor line guide off fleabay, used the right glue reccomended for rubber to hyperlon tube but there is a part on the lower outside of the bow that has already has a shiny rubbing strake on to which the line guide has not taken
Would i be able to use sikaflex to bond the two surfaces together & if when i inflate to tube after couple days also use it on the hyperlon if it lifts which im hoping it doesnt
regards gramas

Have you used two part glue ?
You should have sanded the hypalon, the underneath of the rubber fitting and the rubbing strake before applying the glue.

rubbing strake should be sanded /keyed ( we use 24grit discs in an angle grinder ) so no shiny can be seen , primed with glue ,left overnight , then re-glued and put together and rolled down very hard .

we use sikaflex at work for solid rubber fendering, would i be able to glue bow guide to front rubbing strake with that, i know for sure it would hold but just the rubber to rubber, not on the hyperlon?

Hi Gramas,
Sikaflex is not an alternative to glue, if you follow Paul Tilleys advice then you can't go far wrong, sikaflex is good for gap filling and certain water leaks around transoms but not for adhesion of components .

Not quite. There are specific types of sikaflex for structural bonding. The stuff we tend to buy off the shelves in the chandlery is normally a compromise product between adhesive and gap filling.

If the area in question is not under any load and you just want to hold it in place to keep it looking pretty then I'd pop a bit of sika in.

Sikaflex i know is for bonding defo as we use it like said before we use it to glue fendering onto ali/gpr boats
