Transom drain plug removal

Hi. Got my new (old) boat on the water. The one way drain valve isn't one way any more!

This type of thing. Do they unscrew, or are they glued in? There's plenty of replacement ones for sale, but I can't see a fitting guide. I'm on holiday with limited tools, but if they just unscrew I might be able to take the old one off and see what's what.

Yes the outer body should unscrew but may have sealant making it reluctant. You will need new sealant. Why not just leave the bung in for the holiday?

I'm getting a bit of splash over the transom, so I would like to be able to drain it out while planing along. The only way to get it out currently is to use a sponge or beach and tip the boat up, both of which are a pain in the arse. I'm not sure if I was just lucky, but on my old boat I never had a bung and the drain was watertight to stop water from coming in, but drained anything out when planing.

Get a milk carton and some duck tape.

Cut the carton to the shape of the hexagon 'nut'

Tape on top 4 edges, leave bottom 2 untaped. Do this on the outside of the transom. Should work reasonably well
