Honwave quality control

Have planned to look at/buy a 2016 HW t27 this afternoon - no patches/repairs

Having previously had an old tough reliable 3.2 which wasn’t badged Honwave but Honda Marine I thought buying another was a formality

Last 48 hours have read a few posts about quality control and glue failures, I’m surprised by this based on my experience so have Honda gone downhill from a certain year?

I really don’t think Honwave have any greater numbers with faults than any other brand inc Zodiac. I’d happily buy one.

They did have a period a few years ago with misaligned floors/keels on, I think, the T38 where some folks got them exchanged under warranty. Just do the usual checks re seams and general condition. Is this as a tender for your hard boat?

Yes will have a good look over.

Seller wants £600 for boat/wheels/pump/oars but no seat. It will be for use as a tender if hard boat (shhh not on this forum) ever gets past the leaking hydraulic saga

Have been around the clock thinking of Avons, Quicksilvers, Excel, Talamax, SportYak, Bombard AX3001 rib and so on. Settled on a SIB because the roll up option is good to have. SIB will stand on its end in a rack - there is a 2.7m limit set by dinghy police /management

Settled on Honwave as although over priced use compared to other brands I know them to be robust - quite unsettling to read about others having pin holes leaks, delaminating glue seams and all

Still quite tempted by the ax rib as it’s only £150 but 2.5m with space losing pointy cones

I have 3 Honwaves. T40 AE3, T35 AE3 and my old faithful T38 ie2. The quality of Honwaves is in my view second to none.

One can only ask, if I was selling it I don't think I would mind if you wanted to cover it in soapy water and give it a wash

Boat world has opened up a whole can of worms

All I can say in my dealing with Boatworld over the Elling they were excellent. Others report similar in particular Chipko who’s had loads of dealings with them.

2 years 11 months leaving it out in rain wind and shine might be a test..

Honwave T27 34kg
Boatworld 270 29kg

So, 9 year old Honwave with launch wheels £600 vs new 270 with no wheels for £695 and 3 year warranty vs wildcard for £100 odd (see photo)
