A Day Out On Windermere - Video

I registered Redneck for Windermere this year despite having a few reservations with regard to speed restrictions etc.

First day out, and we had a really good day. Hope you like the video.

Good to see you got out Steve. Seems we are in for a few decent days over many parts of the country for the next week or so.

What camera are you using?

We certainly plan on getting out much more often…work, weather and health permitting.

It was great to get back out on the water David, unfortunately work over the next few weeks makes another trip soon practically impossible. However after that I'm free for most of the summer Windermere, Anglesey and West Wales are in the calendar.

No specific camera, just my Pixel 6. Tried a gimbal and a GoPro lookalike but found I was concentrating more on getting a good video rather than enjoying being out on the water. Now I just take loads of video on my phone. This 5 min video is condensed from approx 45 mins of random video I took on the phone.

Couldn't agree more Brin. Didn't get out as much as I would have liked last year but plan to rectify that this year.

I'm pondering on doing a bit more video, if only to show folks on our TV now and again.

I've an older GoPro, Hero 4 with rear screen, surprisingly good results but it doesn't have stabilisation and in some situations gets the jitters too much. Like you I use the phone loads because... it's waterproof... it has great video/stabilisation... and most important it's always in my pocket.

I shall ponder further.

I will probably get another 2 axle gimbal just to take the tilt out of the video, I'm not keen watching the sea trying to run downhill but I couldn't get to grips with the 3 axle gimbal I tried far to technical for me.

You won’t want to listen to me but I will still try to help.

I tried all of those things but in the end somthing like an Osmo Action 3 or 4 from DJI with horizon balance and stabilisation is way better especially in a boat. A gimbal is just hard to set down etc.

Do as you see fit however

Thank you for the advice, however as I mentioned in #7 I did try a 3 axis gimbal (a DJI 3) which if my memory serves me correctly you advised me to get a couple of years ago.
I didn't like it, too much fuss and hassle for me.

Each to their own. I know you enjoy buying and using your many devices and telling people about them, I on the other hand am a more simplistic person.

The device you mention was a DJI Osmo pocket which has a gimbal. It is the whole gimbal thing that is a pain on a boat. The DJI osmo Action which is now on the 4 generation is an action camera with electronic stabilisation. It can be put down at any point quickly. Just like a go pro but better in that they do not suffer from some of the issues of go pros

As with so many things I have gone through the same process you are going through and just trying to save people money and benefit from what I have learnt.

Still as I said people are not bound in the UK at least to listen to others however qualified they might think they are or claim to be. It is an individuals choice.

You're welcome, pleased you liked it. I don't really know why it's taken me so long to get back on the water on Windermere, it is a beautiful place if you keep away from the crowds of tourists around Bowness and Ambleside.
