Yamaha 8hp Do I have a charging system/rectifier fitted? (With pics)

Hi all.

Just giving my 8hp Yam the once over before using for the first time this year.
I've spotted these before but not really registered their presence.

I'm thinking a voltage regulator/rectifier?

Anyone enlighten me? If it is.. How do I go about connecting up.

Many thanks..Click image for larger version

Below is an image from my similar era Yamaha 15hp 2-stroke repair manual... manual start version diagram shown.

Item 1 the regulator... item 2 the charge coil... item 3 the socket on the front near the choke knob.

The colours look correct and all I don't see is the black which could be hidden or an earth through the body.

Thanks very much Fenlander. I though so.

Am I correct in thinking the output at the socket on the front will be DC rather than AC?

So fitting a battery and charging it is doable?

I'd assumed it would be DC but haven't got round to testing it yet as my stand alone battery for the small Garmin plotter lasts a few days so I just charge it every night or two indoors.

By the way the unconnected red in that diagram is only used for the elec start with remotes model where it connects with the on board battery and the multiplug to the remotes.

Thanks again for that Fenlander. Like you, I don't have a huge requirement for charging etc. as we travel light and currently are mostly inland on lakes/lochs/rivers etc.

However, I'm looking at doing some coastal stuff at some point so thought having power could be handy.

AC rectified to DC around 14 volts max

Nope. The plug on front is still ac the power as it’s coming straight from lighting coil and not gone through rectifier yet.

The red female that’s spare is the feed from the rectified to the battery +. All good to go, just connect red through a fuse to battery and an ground from battery - to the engine block.
