Volkswagen Marine inboard

Hi guys.
I've just bought another boat (not a rib though!)
It has a VW 150hp 5 cylinder diesel TDI 2.5l engine in it that needs work.
Is this engine the same block as the 2.5 TDI VW transporter block anyone able to confirm?

im no expert but a friend who has a Merry Fisher with the same engine, uses VW automotive engine spares as he says they are cheaper than VW Boat engine spares

Good luck with it. I've heard they can be fickle things to work on and very very sensitive to timing and fuel pump set up tolerances.

They are very closely based on the automotive block and as said, most spares can be obtained more economically from a motor factor. The Arvor Boat Owners Forum is fairly dormant but has a fair bit of info about these engines.
