Upgrading a Mercury 6hp 2 stroke to 8hp

I've just bought a 1999 Mercury 6hp 2 stroke as an auxiliary engine for my RIB.

For its power, it's actually quite heavy (33kg), but browsing around the web, it seems that it can be upgraded to 8hp purely by changing the carburreter.

Anyone know a cheap source of an 8hp carb? A brief look online at parts places gives prices of around £100 for a new one. Is that the going rate?

Cheers,

Gerry

If that 2 strokes 8 HP happens to be a rebadged current production Tohatsu horse you could upgrade it straight to a 9.8 HP. Current 6,8,9.8 have same CC. Besides carb swap will need more timing advance. Carbs are around mentioned prices.

Happy Boating
