NOT TOO HEAVY (auxilary engine)

I'm changing my back up motor due to the weight on board increasing and need to go up to say 8 hp ( currently 3.3)
standard shaft is ok.

I will have to either take engine from front to back so wieght but not size is important or I will have to have it along side the bigger main engine so both the head size and the weight are important.

So who makes the lightest smallest 8 hp out there ??
just to complicate things are there any down tuned 10s selling as 8s about??

thanks

Try the Tohatsu 9.8hp, the best power to weight ratio around :-

TYPE: 2-STROKE 2-CYLINDER
DISPLACEMENT: 169cc (10.3 cu. in.)
BORE AND STROKE: 50 x 43mm (1.97 x 1.69in.)
RPM RANGE: 5,000-6,000 RPM
FUEL MIX: Pre-Mix (50:1)
OIL TYPE: TCW3
CONTROLS: Tiller Handle or Remote Control
STARTING SYSTEM: Manual or Electric Start Available

DRIVE
GEAR RATIO: 2.08:1
GEAR SHIFT: F - N - R

DIMENSIONS
TRANSOM HEIGHT: 15", 20"
WEIGHT: 59.4 lbs. (27 kgs)
PROPELLER: 6.5" - 9.5"
FUEL TANK: 12 Lit. (3.1 US gals)
Separate Tank

Cheers,

Pete has your boat shrunk, I'm sure the length used to have an extra decimal place
Or is there just a rounding error? When I was at school, we used to round up 6.137 to 6.14 - funny how we used the length of a Glastron Sports Cruiser as an example, but I knew it would come in useful one day

No Richard still the same, I think

As for the engines, I bought mine (my 3.3hp Mercury) from Barnet marine, they seemed pretty good on price when I was considering the Tohatsu, perhaps you could get a deal for two

Good luck,
