mariner optimax 115 2 stroke

Hi All, Im new to any form of forum...let alone Ribnet. Apologies in advance if this is an age old issue..Our engine throws up a constant audible alert when in the sea at approx. 18 plus knots. If you back off it will usually go off, other times if not backed off,it will go into limp mode.It will re start itself and we can continue.. It was serviced earlier this year, but the issue has got progressively worse over the year. Today, I have checked the stat, checked the water filter in the block form the compressor.Im told the impeller was changed in the service earlier in the year and the water seems to pump really well.I put the bow against a wall today and ran the engine at full throttle, it seemed happy with that.I then took the boat for a few runs up and down and the alarm activated again.....not impressed.....any ideas ?? Thanks in advance Ian

I'm assuming you don't have Smartcraft gauges ? You really need to hook up to a DDT Diagnostic machine to pin point the issue, When I had my optimax the marine engineers would charge 1/2 hours labour to run a diagnostic. I bought my own DDT whilst I had the optimax (we had a lot of issues)

I'm not sure you would need to check the ops manual for your engine

If you don't have the Smartcraft gauges that will tell you if it is an overheat condition or oil fault etc then I think you will be best getting a dealer with the full PC diagnostics to connect and run a fault freeze frame history. This will pinpoint at least the fault. If it's overheat, a water pump kit rather than just impeller change may solve ,,,it includes the stainless bottom plate and BOTH gaskets above and below. It's odd it is at 18 mph though ,,, usually at trolling speed on optis if anything. Check the thermostats too

Hi,thanks for the reply. The engine is a 2010..As far as I can see the temp on the gauge was approx 125°.A fault diagnosis said possibly an overheat issue.
