Dumb question on tank

Hi All
Tohatsu 6hp with integral tank 1.5 litre if I remember.

Is this the only way of running it? By topping it up?
Or can you connect an external tank as with non integrated?
Which would you choose?
Thanks

I cant say about Tohatsu..but they are all similar nowadays so suspect same as Yamaha. Yamaha 6HP has internal tank with a three way switch ..

Position 1 internal tank ..
position 2 Off ..
position 3 external tank

It even has a fancy wee primer bulb under the hood if its needed but I have never used it. I presume it would assist the internal tank start up ?

I tend not to use the internal tank as the OB is 26KG as it is and I carry it fair distances across beaches so keep it a light a possible. I use a 8 ltr tank.. and get around 40 miles from it which keeps me happy for a day.

All the Tohatsu 6hp’s have both integral tank and external tank connection point.

Order the external tank option MFS6CS which will come with a line and tank…at 40 odd quid extra over the integral option it’s cheaper than buying an aftermarket tank later.

A litre of Aspen4 in there would weigh heavier on your wallet than your back and as it lasts for years, would be a real handy switchover in the event of some unforseen fuel/hose/primer issue. You could even run a wee bitty through her before planned downtime.

Aspin ? gosh that stuff is dearer than the black gravy.

Im quite happy using E10 in mine now and its not dissolved yet. I would need asprin if forking out for fancy fuel. I had wondered about stashing some gravy in the internal tank..but thought it would end up flat.. so tend to put my emergency stash in a lemonade bottle now

Gosh again..that gravy sure destroys brain cells ..

I forgot I had a wee Tohatsu around 15 years ago ..on my hard shell cuddy boat. As far as I remember .. they came with an internal tank back then but no external tank option.. although you could clip one on..so things have changed? I used a 5 gallon water container as my fuel tank..far cheaper than an external tank. You can see it in the photo of my daughter driving the boat.

If my brain cells are working..I got that tip off Ribnet too.. a Fella with big baws mentioned it ..he was full of good ideas...I miss his input nowadays

His only issue was..he thought he was original..but I had done it all .. years before him

Thanks. I can’t see the point in choosing to have that in that case. Not for me as weight is the issue.
Thanks again

>>> gosh that stuff is dearer than the black gravy.

I’m very seriously considering going over to Aspen for what is likely to be our last outing of the season in the next couple of weeks then using it from now on.. So far I’ve not had problems with E5 but our trip frequency and profile is so different to The Gurnard. We have no other vehicle use for petrol and often end the season with a near full main tank plus a spare can. To be able to know there wasn’t even a hint of worry about that fuel however long the delay to the next season’s start would be reassuring. Going to assess our yearly consumption and overall costs soon and decide.

I hear it’s ok with a drop of tonic too.

Yup.. I will keep folks posted on how I get on with E10 fuel in my 6HP Yamaha which is 5 years old Fenlander. So far I cant tell a difference at all. Its not going into winter storage.

I filled the Quicksilvers tanks before E10 arrived (50 litres worth of E5 and premix) but I know from the past couple years..including lockdowns..it will be fine over winter. I have added a little fuel stabiliser as normal for long storage.

Im still using the original quicksilver grey fuel pipes from 2005 on all three of my fuel tanks and have no delamination issues at all even with E5 fuels..however I do not drain them dry.. I was always told not to drain them as drying out... re wetting..drying out etc .. can cause delamination ? I don’t know if that is true or not but Im not changing my habits in case it cost me new fuel lines. I am keeping a close eye on the E10 fuel line in the Yamaha though. Just mentioning this out of interest..no other reason...and its not a recommendation...best folks decide for themselves on that matter

Im also hoping to update my Quicksilver 420 Alu Hull thread shortly..I have had it well over a year now and its done several thousand miles.. so an update is due.

I also hope to get videos going again .. so many things to do..and so few hours in the day to do them ..but at least Im getting there..the new house is finished to my satisfaction now ..so that is something

My new Tohatsu 6 is an external tank model and actually doesn't have an internal tank at all, which is fine by me. Just FYI.
