Because they did surveillance via insurers which is standard practice for claims due to the number of false claims, or time to settle?

I Agree with Ian, the RYA did nothing wrong, it was their insurers that instigated this!!! And quite rightly So !

Seems insurers cant win.

If they just pay everything without looking into it then fraud increases and everyone pays more .

If they look in to claims they are accused of 'spying' - even when they find its all genuine and pay a significant amount of money.

What would people prefer they do ?

On your side Pete. So many false claims have been made/tried. Think in this case the time lapse from accident to acceptance is poor, but we dont know what delaying tactics done by lawyers etc for each side.

It's good to see the injured party looked after - that's what insurance is for. Unfortunately, some elements of the "legal system" regard insured parties as their main source of income and take advantage of a good system to scam money where there is little or no injury. From personal experience, I can confirm that a win in court often results in a miraculous recovery for the injured party - so I'd support surveillance. Ten years seems excessive, but if the case was going to establish precedence, then it's no surprise...
