Just a quick heads up since you may be in the vicinity of my home ports of Kames and Tighnabruaich. If weather turns less than idyllic free camping can be had in the grounds of the Tighnabruaich Hotel. Breakfast is £6.50. Bunkhouse if weather is REALLY less than idyllic is £10 with brekky inc. Pontoon is 50 yards from hotel. Hotel has very well priced grub and beer.Sorry I can`t make it as I am on hols that week but it is a great part of the world.Phone no. of hotel is 01700 811615.....(no connection to me btw) Enjoy!

I'm about to give away my lack of experience here, but how much fuel is "enough"... I was going to carry a full 12l tank plus 10 to spare, does that sound about right?

Stig I may be wrong but that seems low. 1 litre per mile usually mentioned. That only gives you 22miles, so 11 each day... I'm sure the suggestion is far further than that...

That sounds light to me. I will be carrying 37.5L + at least 5L spare, with a 20HP (2 stroke, and a heavier boat). Last year I think I used a bit over 25L. It is potentially a similar distance this year. There are some options for refuelling this year: Tighnabruich Petrol Station - short walk, Portavadie Marina if we make it that far.

Hi Stigomery.
Looking back at last year's Sib outing I burned around 20 litres in my Tohatsu 20hp 4 stroke.
Covered 38 miles day 1 and 23 miles day 2 (land miles).
I'll be taking my 12 litre fuel tank a plastic 20 litre jerry can and possibly a 5 litre just to be sure.
37 litres in total.
I'm sure your engine will be as if not more efficient than mines.

Stig if you get stuck for getting that old tank usable and it makes the difference between having a safe capacity and not then give me a PM. I could lend you a 12l tank (perhaps 2) of the exact same type that came with your Honda... same connector too I reckon so you could just swap the fuel line over as each gets low.

On your way to Scotland from Cambridge area you'll pass within 2mins of our place (between Hunt & Pboro) if you go A1 way.

That's a very kind offer Fenlander! I seem to recall your intent to keep it new though for future resale...

Looking at fuel lines there seems to be a multitude of prices and .... So I'm not convinced I'll go down that route, might just follow Kaman'd lead, that seems to make sense.

Now, getting a 20hp into a Defender 90, skeg first, single handed, is proving interesting!

You are driving a defender from Cambridge to Largs? After that bouncing about in a sib is going to seem comfortable.

While of course remembering not to get the skeg above the powerhead!

No problem re tanks the offer stands if you need to take it up for any reason. I actually have two of these standard 12l tanks identical (I'm sure) to your Honda one just with the different branding. One I've had years as a spare and the other is the new Suzuki one which I don't use having bought a 25l Quicksilver. It's not that I wanted to keep that new one pristine... just to keep it to sell with the Suzuki if I ever did want to.

I think their connections are identical to the tank end of your fuel line.

I'm afraid I will not be attending the weekend in my SIB as I actually sold it last weekend to a guy from Lewis.
I will try to arrange a rendezvous with you at the weekend on my brothers rib or meet up with you en route somewhere.

@Fenlander My 12l tank is the same as the one on the left except mine has a fuel gauge built into the connector. Keep it clean...

...I've got 37 litres capacity now so more fuel than water, might end up drinking some!

hope you can pinch your brother's rib. We've got a couple of campsites in mind that are weather dependant. The long term forecast looks interesting, but possibly not coming from the prevailing West / South West. I will update the thread at the weekend when the forecast starts to become more reliable.

I don't intent to "publish" the planned campsites so if anyone is hoping to RV with us, send me a PM in the middle of next week and we will let you know, and confirm call signs etc. (If you've got DSC you should be able to position poll me - although I've never tried it!).
