Round Isle of Wight trip

Hi all, hope you had a nice Xmas & a Happy New Year to you all!

I know its been done before many times, by reading the posts on here, (Whisper for 1) about doing a rib trip around the Isle of Wight.
I am planning to do the same trip to raise some funds for our dive club.

I am not asking you guys for money, but could we join anyone doing this cruise or would you like to join us?
Thinking of the late spring time on a good tide & fair weather we hope? LOL

I believe the distance is around 60nms? We will be taking enough fuel to go almost twice round, so no problem there. Boat is a 585 Ribcraft with 115 4 stroke fitted with all safety equipment, fixed vhf & at least 2 h/hand radios, phones etc.
Launching from Portsmouth & maybe stopping off at Ventnor and or Yarmouth?

Any advice on this subject would be much appreciated! Thanks-John

Only thing I would say is aim for slack (ish) off St Catherines. If you are going Needles, St Catherines, Bembridge direction hit the needles as the ebb is dying then you pick up the first of the incoming tide as you head for St Catherines which will be smoother.

Otherwise enjoy.

If you fancy a luchtime anchor then Sandown Bay is nice, as it Whitecliff Bay or head into Bembridge.

Watch out for Bembridge Ledges and Ryde Sands

Keep up posted when you are going, I always enjoy a run around the Island

This might help your planning. Long arrows fast water smaller arrows slow water.

Good luck!

Thanks for that guys! We dive the wrecks & the eastern part of the island often, so we know that area with the ledges, tidal diamonds, etc quite well. Just haven't been round much further.
Thinking of going 'clockwise' round, or would 'anti-clock' be better?
I'll post a date in the new year & hopefully one or more of you will join us? Safety in numbers & all that. p.s If you lose your anchor, give us a shout? lol

Been round a few times on a number of different craft ( inc ribs, zap cats & skis ). Excluding stops you can cruise round in a couple of hours, either direction and never really worried too much about the tide - just picked a nice calm day. A buddie boat / craft is a good idea and as mentioned before bembridge ledge and ryde sands are areas to navigate wisely, enjoy.

Thanks for that Whisper.
I'll run that date passed my dive club members. Although our main aim was to raise funds for our dive club, equipment & boat maintenance etc I'm sure they won't mind contributing also towards such a worthy cause as the cancer charity. Most people have lost someone close to them due to the disease?
Cheers-John
