Thanks all for the replies. I've now been told that the issue may well be with the water supply from the yacht club, which can be variable. That may well explain why it worked for 'someone' some time...

Ethanol in fuel is a big issue if you have a polyester resin fibreglass tank. The resin goes soft, not great for a fuel tank :eek:
