Whats this then?

Hi all

I came across a boat on boatshed which is being described as a one off scorpion, built for racing with no CE!!

What do the experts think? Has the vendor got it right?

http://norfolk.boatshed.com/register.php?boat=146646

Sounds like it needs to be sold and it goes in to an auction fairly soon

Can't tell if its a deal or a crock.

PH

Curiosity got the better - so I went looking and I think this is the boat in question

Scorpion RIB 7.75 Race Hull Boats for Sale

So with a 200 horse 2 stroke Yam with an insatiable thirst and no CE plate it certainly wouldn't be my cup of tea

Saturday morning Special Nos?

That boat has been discussed on here before - fairly recently...

I remember - but just not where

That's the boat. I reckon it needs a load of work to make it usable for anything other than too tooling around on smooth water. Seats have got to go!!! Needs the foot throttle taking out and it has no electronics. As they say on Dragons Den "I'm out".

Anyone can put HIN on it - I'm sure Scorpion would help with that and CE if it mattered to anyone. Race boats are a funny thing when it comes to CE marking - as far as I am aware it doesn't have to have been raced as such and I guess if you're not making every boat as a race boat and selling them to the public no-one will mind.

I would think being a Scorpion (if it is one) it would be good as a rough water boat and having driven fast boats from a seated position it's the only way to go over 50mph, jockey are too hard to stay on if there is any side loading at all!

Scorpion have been good enough to say this is not in fact one of their boats.

I was getting more at the fact that without a HIN on it that's traceable back to the manufacturer, you can say it's any age you want-or any boat you want.

QED in that Scorpion say it's not one of theirs.

Not surprised it's not a genuine Scorpion - Anyone have any idea what it is?

It looks like a racing phantom that Nick Barsch built a few years back.

If it is - and it looks like it does resemble the Phantom 19 hull it will be a great RIB with very good seakeeping qualities - it'll go well as well!

This is what the place that is sellingb it had to say "Thank you for your interest in the Rib, We (Boatshed) were concerned on the make but we followed this up and sent some details and photographs to Scorpion and they confirmed that it was indeed one of there boats."

Bit of a difference in opinion. It looks like an early scorpion but is it ?

Looks like one of the mk1 K4+ consoles and Nick did have one or two of those - whereas Scorpion didn't. A few others were sold and could have ended up on different boats though.
