The one in HMS Sultan used to train baby shipwrights has a number of holes in her. Hull is about 3/8ths thick, thats about the same as the flak jacket I had in Belfast.

If the cost of a stern drive is too much, Jammie in Southampton has some bits (Extreme Marine).

Hi All,
Really sorry for the delay in responding, i have been laid up with a duff back from an accident 30 odd years ago, where I fell down a ladder on HMS DIDO.
Landed on my b##t and dislodged my sacrum. The chiropractor in Newport found this in 2 minutes when the pussers physioterrorists and doctors, armed with xrays and other paraphernalia, failed miserably on more than one occasion.

Many thanks for your support and advice over this costly period for Sharkie.
She is back in the water with a 'better than new' sterndrive with all the proper anodes fitted. Total cost was £4200 (ouch) but that did include a little work on damaged gelcoat (chines and nose) and a new bilge pump.
Still, she is now watertight and going well. I still have some more of the chacks that you all have suggested. We took her across from Island Harbour to Hamble Pt the other day on smooth water. Clean exhaust, good plane and 2600 rpm max. I aim to change the fuel filters and so on then see what else I can do to get the engine up to 2800, which I am told is a safe level.

Now our other boat (Wight Mistress - fisher 34) has a leak on the stern tube.
She comes out tomorrow for a fix before her 2 bilge pumps give up on us.
Will this never end? S'funny how huge bills all come in togeter and just before Christmas - aaah such is life

Have a great Christmas. I will be out commuting across to Portsmouth daily in a week or so - just letting the back settle a bit more first.

Steve, brilliant to hear she is back in action and so are you. Ian brought his P22 up from Brixham over the weekend, brave chap, so we did lunch at the lighthouse next to the RNLI. Sorry if I had thought about it we could have met up. Have to have a huge meet up at the next Ribex in May.

Hi, Does anybody know where I can obtain manuals for my Pacific’s hull and machinery and in particular the hydraulic trim pump, as I am about to take it to pieces!
Any suggestions on either would be greatly appreciated.

I’m told the trim pumps are non service items
The outdrive pump was made by smiths industries. Part no. R2HXXPQNXEXXFFU but smiths were taken over by SPX,

Who put me on to someone in Holland who could make one. They are expensive (£250 ish) and if you can find another bit of kit that will do it or a second hand one it would be good.

Leroy pm me your e mail address, I have a copy of the operating manual which Jelly turned into a PDF file for us. If you can give me a fax number I also have the wiring diragram for the pump which changed at some point in the boats history.

Having replaced my trim motor by buying a new one from Lancing (don't even ask how much) the following week I saw something very similar in one of Pompeys hydraulic specialists

I did have a go at repairing it and it worked for a while, but when you take the two nuts of the top of the electric motor the long studs they attach too drop down into the reservoir and reconnecting them will test your endurance to the limit. In the end the bushes broke up which is why I replaced it.

Paul, I went to look at a P22 in Keyhaven that had a mercruiser pump wouldn’t be the same boat would it?

I seem to remember that there is an issue over the way the different pumps work, I think it was something to do with bypass valves which are needed to allow the leg to jump up if it is hit hard enough Might be best to ask Mike at Lancing because I really can’t remember for sure. Des

Dont know I got it off of Neville.So wouldnt know.
This one didnt have an A frame on it,other than that cant give you much more info as they all look the same.Did it have a white electrical box close to the pump to house soleniods etc., cant think of any other give away signs. I will ask Nev.

Leroy, missed the thread a bit as i have been away in italy.

Suggest you remove your pump, make a simple assembly to connect the hoses to a gauge and check it (you said that you had machining capabilities) - then if its not the pump its the leg. Would then check the valves in the top of the rams. These pumps were exceptionally expensive - over £1000 if my memory is right. Mercruiser ones are simpler and less than £300.

Brian thumped the leg of a rock as you know so it may just be the ball bearings seating properly in the ram.

hi how can you tell the age of the boat?and to re tube how much would that cost? and lastly a trailer for a p22 what size 2 or 4 wheels and cost aprox?

Gary, To buy a set of tubes from one of the main tube makers is going to cost between £3000 - £3800 + vat. Then you can either fit them yourself - a bit of hastle or possibly pay the tubemaker to fit them if they have done that type before - they are screw on, and there are millions of screws.

The trailer will cost anything from £500 upwards for a second hand one. Ramco.co.uk have one on their next sealed tender and they normally go for approx £400 for a twin axle braked. A good secondhand roller coaster type will cost £1200-1500 .....

If you think you might have a ram problem a word of caution, there was batch of rams that were not made correctly, not naming names but they were made in the UK

These rams are double sleeved to allow oil to the further end of the ram without using an external pipe and as far as I can tell the inner sleeve was too short on the bad batch and would move resulting in the ram having oil pressure on both sides of the piston at once

You can check this with an air line by putting air in one side, if it is wrong, you will get air out the other side having previously made sure the bypass valves are seated correctly Having said that I found that the inner sleeve on one set of rams worked ok on air pressure but once I put hydraulic pressure on them they failed
