Chris
I might be completely wrong but I wouldn't believe that unless I got it in writing because with a clause such as exceeding the maximum HP limit if the claim was substantial enough such as a serious injury to a third party I'm sure that they would try and wriggle out of paying out, or am I just being cynical.

Agreed Kerny as I said earlier in the thread I think they will use it as against manufacturers recommendations.

Exceeding rated HP

I've dug out some paperwork and it turns out I'd be 5hp over limit, its actually rated for 135hp but 100hp recommended. There isn't actually a plate on the transom, I'm taking my info from some sales brochures of the boat.

I'm looking at a Suzuki DF 140.

Less weight, less noise, less fuel.

And if they're determined not to pay out, they'll use it!

I'd add on the insurance front - don't rely on simply saying you have an xx hp engine on YY boat .

Be 100% clear its over the max rated by the builder . Insurers don't know what boat is rated for what - they will only look if something bad happens at which point its too late.

We argue enough on here about what boat is rated to what and we know ALOT more than underwriters do ........

Of course as some of us love to point out a 140 Suzuki may not actually be 140hp - more like 128 ? Just ask AJ .........

Or you could look at something like a Yam 130... Though that would be a waste of two pages of perfectly good replies.
