The forecast remains valid except that the Wednesday/Thursday low is deeper than first it seemed and the blow is going to be stronger. Wednesday wind could get up to 40 knots and Thursday around 35. Even on Friday it is still up there in the 30s from the SW.

As a result we have slipped the programme by 24 hours and if we still go we will set off on Saturday. By then the low is centred on Brittany and it's heading south. By Sunday it should be over Vigo and by Monday the UK is covered with a sprawly high. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are now all looking OK.

Unfortunately due to the change of dates I am unable to make this trip. I have commitments in Newcastle early on Tuesday and cannot see myself managing to make them on time.

Hope you all have a great time and look forward to hearing about it on your return.

Please count me in for any plans in more settled weather next summer.

Just to confirm Mike's forecast, check out this link to the Medium Range Forecast website for details of Saturdays weather

If you are 50/50 as to whether to go then ECMWF are the dogs at forecasting and this forecast should be good news for everyone leaving the Solent.

This MAY be good news for me.

Is there anybody else going from the Solent who needs to get back to work for Monday i.e. do the crossing to St Malo on the Saturday, have an early night with a cup of cocoa and an improving book, and return on the Sunday while others head up to Dinan.

(Haven't had my pass stamped yet as Mrs W's attending a wedding...)

Brian, it may well be that we now don't go up to Dinan. Charles is leading this thing and he has to get home Sunday night for a working Monday. Instead we may just tool along the coast from bar to bar on Sunday before coming back Sunday or Monday.

Mmmmmmmmm

Well looking at the latest forcasts looks like even us 6 mtr people may get across the Channel .... though for my part, not as far South as St Malo. It will take me to long - Not enough daylight at this time of year and the weather a bit too fickle.
However may well do Alderney or Cherbourg (or Boulogne) on Sat/Sun or Mon/Tue. It depends how the Low behaves and provided it doesn't do a last minute change! Friday night decision by the look of it!

Watching the weather with interest.

The weather for Saturday is a whole lot better than Friday, with the low moving south and should be into the Bay of Biscay.

According to my web sites, 0700 Saturday there should be F3 winds on the south coast with a slight increase to F4 around the Channel Islands.

And according to the Met Office site it will be bright sunshine so I'll be packing be factor 5 and Rayban's

Apologies for the pfaffing about, but I'm afraid I'm out.

Mrs W went into a complete Sybil Fawlty meltdown last night, when I enquired whether it would be possible to make a few adjustments to a family wedding itinerary that she had planned for this weekend. I was deemed to be "completely selfish" when I wanted to go Sailing (yup ! ) all Saturday & Sunday.

So that's that avenue of pleasure closed off, along with a few others I suspect...

I agree with Usama; bit of slop left from the gales, but weather looks to to be improving for the weekend.

Safe passage everyone and have a litre or two for me.

Yes, that's what I've been seeing Mark, but for us 6 metre people planning action on this forecast, do beware. It should be down to 15 knots in the Solent by some forecasts as I write ... In fact its about 24 according to Chimet. Also, I've just spoken to the HM at Dover, (Possible option for me if quieter in the East) and their forecast for now (Friday) is 3-4... in fact it is apparantly more like 30 knots there!.... so I suspect a possiblity of some forecast revisions later today. Hopefully things are just a bit late cos Sun - Tue didn't look too bad.

Andre and I are still hoping to do something this weekend. Plan at the moment is perhaps Cherbourg Sat/Sun though re- above looking less likely as there's still going to be lot of swell about even if the winds do drop o/n.

2nd option - Solent tomorrow (for Andre) and shorter crossing Dover - Boulogne Sun/Mon. (My favoured for domestic reasons)

3rd option - Tidal Thames through London on Sunday

4th option - pub!

So if you do come down at least we can do London!

My understanding is that Magellan Alpha with Mike and Di Garside and Cyanide with Andy Cox, left St. Mawes early this morning en-route to the Minquierres Plateau.
Certainly, from where I am (just over 100mtrs. up on top of a range of hills overlooking Tor Bay) I can see that the sea state is very calm. Viz this morning is good and I can see about 20-25 miles out, as far as the traffic separation zone off France. The sea is calm all the way.
I have to say that Mr. Garsides ability to accurately forecast weather ahead is unsurpassed!
I have been unable to reach them by phone but will attempt contact later today and try and give you all an update.

1300 hours update

Magellan Alpha has had to turn back after 20 miles or as Di Garside is now suffering from severe pain due to a back injury. Cyanide with Andy Cox continuing alone.
RV due about 1400 hours with Charles, Paul Lemmer, Maqrk Wildey etc. off The Minquierres prior to a final run down to the French coast.

1530 hours update

Mike and Di returned safely to St. Mawes.
Andy carried on alone. I did not realise that Andy had damaged his ankle on Thursday and has been in some pain. Anyway a call ahead to the boats RVing, has caused a change of RV site. The lead boats, including Cyanide are now in St. Peter Port, Guernsey, awaiting further instructions from Charles.

1630 hours update

Refreshment having been taken, our intrepid boaters are now leaving Guernsey and are en-route to Sark, where they will over-night.

Once a suitable, local source of alchohol has been found, they will then discuss their plans for tomorrow.

The flotilla now consists of Cyanide with Andy Cox
Jelignite with Mark Wildey and Jon Adlard
Scorpio with Charles and Fiona, and
A loaned Revenger with Hogo Montgomery-Swann, his son Thomas and Paul Lemmer.
(K and P - I was nearly right!)

All this typing and phoning has now exhausted your correspondent to the extend of him having to seek solace in the demon drink for the rest of the evening. So probably no more postings till tomorrow.

When did Andy make the trip from Torquay to St Mawes ?
Did he manage to miss the bad weather or is that how he got hurt ?
