I feel I need to add this before MattH gets a barrage of abuse. We have been out to Dolphin Bank many times to play in the waves. The original AJ stag do cruise last year we did the same thing and uploaded videos but there were no comments of being wreckless or a dumb thing to do. The difference this time is a boat rolled over which I think we can all agree on is not a good thing to happen.

I just want to point to my earlier post that I did just get on film the boat going over the problem was it was a good old distance away. By moving through the footage frame by frame and 2 inches away from the screen I can see that before the boat flipped the boat was not moving at speed had not just taken off a wave and was in a following sea then a wave span it over as I could see the rear port tube go over the top.

So looking at "measured risk" there is always a possibility that things can go wrong, i have no doubt if my engine had failed I could have been in MattH position. Admittedly I don't drive my boat as hard a Matt does but wonder if I would get the same comments or are people judging Matt based on the earlier footage and not that the engine stalled in big waves.

He is out playing in waves in a confined area (the bank) with two support boats bigger than him. Is that not exactly what the Zap Cats do in the surf?

He is not endangering anyone else, nor overly relying on volunteer emergency services. He hasn't done anything stupid, has safety gear with him. I don't see the problem.

My wife however said if i went out and behaved like that she would kill me, as i have two kids. What if the boat hit him etc? Well that is his call IMHO.

If we lambast everyone who posts on here, people will stop posting.

The quote below purports to actions that are arguably more irresponsible....

Might be interesting for everyone to be able to see that.

In general the RIBnet conclusion in the past has been that RIBs don't generally just flip unexpectedly but are by and large caused by people pushing the envelope too far - is this an exception to that rule? Maybe, or maybe driving the rib in a way that got the engine wet and caused the problem is the root cause.

I know video always flattens the sea - but the conditions during the recovery don't look that bad. Certainly I've been out in worse, with a smaller boat and might have felt vulnerable but didn't expect to capsize.

Is it not obvious that the reason it conked, if it genuinely conked, was because you'd dunked it arse first on multiple occasions leading up to the flip.
There was a very good chance that that boat was going over, with or without an engine 'misfire'.

Let's be honest, you wear the 'Yeehaa' badge with total pride and it was only a matter of time before it went wrong.

You were taking it to the extreme, 'coz that's what 'crazy' Matt does.

AJ, not sure whether it is just me, but your first video appears to be set to private. Doh, just read your following post.

No one got hurt, nothing got broken.

No one was called out. No rescue resource was wasted... as it wasn't needed.

You can go out on a flat day and all of the above could not be true by the end of it.

An engine can quit at anytime....

Case closed.......
