Ships radio Licence

A quick question. I've just received my Ships Radio Licence Renewal. previously on this site I have seen reference to the fact that from August this year there will no longer be a requirement to renew the Licence as it is being scrapped.

Is this true ? If so is it really worth me paying for a couple of months renewal.

Also I have a MMSI number will this be cancelled if I don't renew, going on from how will new Radio users get an MMSI once the Licence application has ceased.

Its free from the 1st Oct licence will be renewed to all existing (Paid up) holders. If not renewed I understand that MMSIs and Callsigns may be reassigned to others.
