Well I made it to the needles and back this morning with no issues, sea was lovely and calm and there was barely another boat out there!

Thanks for everyone’s comments and suggestions, now I’ve got that trip under my belt I’m feeling way more confident and may even attempt round the island next. I was tempted to do it this morning!

Good to hear!
I'll be going around the IoW first week in Sept, exact day according to weather, happy to have some company if you don't do it by then. Heading out from Hayling Island, need enough fuel for at least 70 miles.

Barely a ripple, only realised I was going through it because I saw the lighthouse!

Hurst can and does get lumpy, wind against a spring tide is fun, the bridge just west of the Needles has caught many a boat out and at the back of the island you've got St Catherine's overfalls, which I've crossed may times - varying from smooth to OH SH*T!!
