RC585 weight

Lakeland terrier I know you have a RC585 on a trailer.
Having been in a dry stack for a few years I'll soon be moving my RC585 to another part of the country to live on a trailer.
I've identified suitable trailer a Rapide R2B61 (Charlie delivered it on one) but I'd just like to check boat weight to be absolutely certain. Trailer can support max boat weight 1100kg.
I've a Pacific offshore console two jockeys and a bench and a Suz 140.
I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Mine fully loaded with fuel. (90L), and fishing gear is 1.58T inc the trailer. Also I have the slightly heavier merc 150.
Ribcraft supply the 585 on the mersea 1.5T trailer , often 2T hitch and 1.5T axle, so you should be fine.
Although mine is 1.58 on the trailer, as a variable load you are allowed a 10% overload.
I cross a weighbridge in the docks here every time I launch.

Thanks very much. Looking good.

Hi,
All depends on exact fitout -base hull is 580Kg, DF140 191Kg then console, and seat pods A-Frame c. 100KG?
I work on bare boat 900Kg than add 250Kg to be safe - for anchor & chain, line, 90L of fuel (70Kg), safety gear so all up max 1,150Kg, Rapide single axle braked trailer is 360Kg so max weight for towing is 1,510Kg, Trailer is plated at 1.5t as gpsgurus says.

If gpsguru has the exact weight from weighbridge I' d accept that - it's pretty close to my estimates and will be more accurate! If in doubt on the margins, think what could come off the boat & be carried in the car when towing.

I tend not to tow it any distance full, but fill the tank as close as possible to launch point to save a bit of weight.

Thanks LT.
Good point about fuel and light boat for long tows.
First tow will be a few hundred miles so I'll make sure the tank is low and I'll take off anything extraneous including the hefty bench cushion.
Thanks again.

I'm sure that RC will not be delivering boats on trailers that are not legal for weight so if they use that trailer to deliver you boat it will be legal.
Just check the plate and consider what extra stuff you put on when calculating total gross weight.

Someone clever helping me has just found on the RC website a 585 package and in the options is a R2B55H which is a shorter and much cheaper version than the other one. Something to do with 585 including overhangs?
Same weight 1500kgs.
Will look closely tomorrow.

Looking at a pic I took when she was delivered by CC she looks a very snug fit on the trailer - rear rollers almost aligned with the transom, no overhang. It must have been an R2B55H.
Just need to check which axle (I think Knott) and bearings are fitted by Rapide but I'm certain I'll go for the R2B55H and save £1k over the bigger one.

My trailer is an RR2B55HRC 2016.

Transom aligns with the rear rollers very closely.
Axles are Knott.

Sorted! Many thanks LT.
Can I ask you a couple off-topic questions.

For long tows do you have full cover on?

Do I need a keel guard on a Tetradock or similar?

Hi Scambler,

Personally I remove the cover before I tow any distance, I know it should not get loose / blow off, but it's one less thing to worry about.

I don't think you need a keel-guard for a Tetradock - I don't have one - the grp/ flowcoat is tougher than the plastic of the dock.

Hi LT
Correct answer on both counts.
I may struggle to get a cover before I move her, all cover makers up to their eyes in orders. I have a £25 Console cover (Boatworld) that has stayed on through every gale for near 5 years. Held on by suction pads, no protrusions from console to snatch trousers!

I've spoken to Ribcraft re keel guard, they're up to their eyes in orders as usual and of course SBS before too long. They can supply stick on keel guard but say it's a job for a pro, easy to go wrong. I would only get them to fit one, trust no one else.
So I'd decided that the boat will never take the ground voluntarily, anchor off if necessary etc. as there will be quite a lot of beach stuff where she's going.
Possible Tetradock was only remaining question mark and you've answered that so that's something else sorted.
Thanks again LT
