Moorings

Any ideas much appreciated short of cutting the idiot adrift on how to remove a clapped out old shetland which has attached itself to my mooring . The moron responsible hasn't even used the main mooring roap but has tied onto the lifting buoy ! I suppose a bit of wind will blow him off but only by breaking my gear .

How long has it been on your mooring and who do you pay?
The right thing to do is probably contact the person who owns the mooring and see what they say?

If it was my mooring I'd just move him and tie it against the harbour wall.

Thanks Chewy , its my own mooring - bought , paid for and licensed by the crown which makes this even more annoying . Its in a relatively remote location on the west coast and there isnt anywhere to take this heap of junk short of beaching it . Given its condition and the way it has been moored I would say the owners haven't a clue and see my mooring as fair game .

Is the mooring marked up with your boat name and how long has the Shetland been there?

Yep short of giving the Queen a ring I'd beach it, either that or cut it loose tow it back claim salvage rights then bang it on eBay with no reserve.

mooring

Its been there over a week now and the mooring is clearly painted with the boats name . I doubt anyone would actually pay you for this thing . Two claaped out engines hanging off the stern - the usual old merc and yamaha combo . Tempted to ask bigmuz to use it as target practice .

Where exactly is it? PM me a location and I'll see if it's anyone on the fishing forum I use.

Hmmm. I think I understand vintner's problem - you don't want to tread on too many toes in such places - 'cos YOU have to moor there unprotected afterwards.

I'd get someone else local to break the news to the guy first - maybe pop a nice wee note on the boat too - saying you're gonna need the mooring (next week) and while he's welcome to use it until then, you need it back.

or

Go down at 3am, fin out, cut it loose and make sure the bung is out. A good spring tide in the "right" direction helps too...

rural diplomacy, i has it

Very tempting Wilk - its only two miles from my house but nobody local has any idea who this thing belongs to . I will get the big drill out if its not away next week .

To some extent it has a parallel with trespass in my view. Has it got an anchor on board? If so, I'd drag the heap some distance away and drop the anchor, maybe making sure the bitter end is attached first perhaps. I would think that is a fair solution.

It's gotta belong to someone not too far away. Could have had problems so used the nearest unused mooring meantime. A bit more inquiry maybe. Is your mooring strong?.. you could both be on it until you find the owner. Casting the boat adrift is not a reasonable option imho.

we had this a few years back when someone did the same thing to a yacht mooring, the owner of the other boat wasent too impressed with a bill then for the damage his boat had caused when both boats were tangeled up and started banging together overnight ,,other incident was a large Belgian beam trawler that decided to use the same yacht mooring overnight ,,thankfully the yacht was in the yard but it caused no end of damage to the mooring anchors and tackle .

obviously the other boater will have filled out a cg66 form ,perhaps they could trace the owner ,LOL
have you been aboard the boat to see if there is any sign of life ,who knows ,owner may be ill in a bunk ,,if you know what i mean .

moorings

Too deep to use his anchor . My mooring is only raited at 2 tonns - had to chase a bloody great gin palace off it last month . Just a total pain in the arse as it is pretty much abandoned . Have had to put my own boat back on its trailor . Happy days

I'd drag it up the beach at high tide and use his own anchor to hold him there.

A week without even leaving a note onboard is taking the mickey.

If you take action in any form other than to leave a note on his boat and wait then I guess you're opening yourself up to a whole heap of trouble. If this numpty really does have no regard for anyone else but himself, he will take any action by you as hostile and there lies the potential for retaliation.

This is a crap situation!

moorings

Mystery solved - the boys from the big smoke buy a clapped out banger , bring it down to their caravan , launch from the slip and put the trailor off the end . Tie the boat onto the piles from an old pier at high tide but don't leave enough slack on the ropes - boat goes turtle and sinks . Manage somehow to turn it back over , bail it and bugger of home leaving it on my mooring . The boat is apparently a complete wreck but they might be back at the weekend to have a go at fixing it . Well insured no doubt ! What a case if any for having to get a ticket . Many thanks for all the advice .
