Making a Wireless Lightboard for a Boat Trailer

I believe that you need to make launching your boat as hassle free as possible. Removing the lightboard and cable can be a pain. I therefore made this wireless lightboard for the new 3D Tender XPRO 535. Video below of what I made

Why do I feel that at least with a wire I might remember to remove the board ..

...I suspect I might end up dunking that!

Will the engine drop with it on?

What's the overhang from the board to the very rear of the trailer? This looks long to me. Maybe that's camera angles.

The bungees look a good addition

You could indeed forget it and dunk it but I have a little checklist on my phone which I work through. It would also be quite easy to seal the lights up with ct1 or Sikaflex as a precaution.

I can move the lightboard holders back if I want to but that position is within the legal limit .

Yes the engine will drop in that position if needed but not sure why you would want to.

As stated in the video these units were only £35 so not too expensive if they get messed up.

Another thing I did not mention is they hold charge very well. Not sure how long in real world the charge lasts though.

For very long journeys I will use a normal wired board probably.

It works and worked perfectly. A light board is not a fashion parade. I am very happy with it. If others want to make a Pretty one that is excellent

Not built one, just so cheap to buy.

My rather harsh remark wasn’t simply regarding diy skills,
more trailer lighting compliance. Such as;

No fog lamp.
Indicators required to be max 400mm from side of trailer.
Illuminated No. plate….only one near, assume not compliant.
Do wireless sets have a driver information lights working/not system?
One partially obscured triangular reflector.

The last thing I need when towing is for plod to pull me over for some lighting infringement only to then pour over the whole rig looking for faults.

Easedalenovice seems to be the driving force behind a lot of the content on here atm, keeping it ticking over. With some great videos, you just knocking it with snide comments, (followed by some constructive ones) ain't doing anyone any favours and encourages any posters to just not bother as for the fear of being mocked. Just a thought.

Yes he posts a lot for his own amusement but no one person is the driving force behind the forum... it ticks over just fine even in the quiet season then starts up again when we all get out and about.

Chipko's comment was pretty mild given the right lash up and questionable legal status of that trailer board. And by calling him snide you might reflect that you are upping the negativity risking Chipko and others who post accurate and well thought out ideas/procedures/resolutions deciding not to bother.

Just a thought.

I wasn't going to chip in (see what I did there!) on this one.

However, Chipko's "creations" have given me endless good ideas to copy and his standard of work always looks impeccable.

But like I said above, I do like the idea of wireless lights providing they confirm to regs and are compatible with dashboard indicator notification lights.
