Long shaft

Hi guys,

I have a mariner 20hp long shaft 4 stroke outboard engine. It’s good condition nearly new and very low hours so I am reluctant to get rid of it.

I have been offered a Honda t40 rib but the guy says it takes short shaft? Will it be a problem with the engine I have? I was concerned that trimmed up it wouldn’t be clear or or might cause some other issues?

Anyone got any experience with this?

You can get an adapter plate to raise its mounting point on the transom so that the prop/plate sit at the correct height. If you run it as-is it'll handle poorly, you'll have loads of excess drag and a lot of extra stress on your transom.
