For a £80,000 cabin rib I wouldn't expect to see terrible workmanship like this,I wouldn't have had the nerve to display this at a boatshow.If they display workmanship like this what do they leave that can't be seen?

I was there today for a meeting with the RYA.

It seemed a lot quieter than previous years. Mailspeed marine have 4 or 5 stands in hall one. (Why?)

Tornado stand was a bit of a botch job with XS Ribs sharing it also.

Zodiac / Avon had huge stands but mainly tenders on display.

One thing to look out for is the cocktail company in the main corridors giving away freebies and on the Frigate, give it a miss if over 5ft tall!!

Will be there on Sat also!

Just back from 2 days at the show. I too thought the crowds were way down on other years (you could get served easily in the Guinness tent!)
We were not looking for anything inparticular this year , but are always on the lookout for bargains..........and it has to be said, we found very few of those ( including some clothing crowds getting rid of very old and poor sized stock, like extra extra small !) which was dissapointing. Distinct lack of Rib Manufacturers showing too. May'be they now find Ribex a better showcase or is it that they cannot afford the LBS rates? Any other comments on the show?

I noticed that in another pic and I agree it does look unsightly but I don't agree it's terrible workmanship. From the pic, it looks like a overlap join. To be fair to the builder, it is going to be nigh on impossible to get the multiple layers of glued fabric to stretch out into alignment with the single layer of the rest of the tube.

As to whether it was good to put a join at that position where it is particularly noticeable, is a different thing.

Edit: Just had another look.. could be an internal cone join which is a bit tight. The tube builder might frequent ribnet, perhaps he/she could tell us.

I think this is a difference in pressure between the chambers, as a result the bulkhead shows through more, if the pressure was the same in both chambers this would disappear.

A lot of the big Ribtec have those indents on the tubes. The 7.9 and 7.4 definitely have them.

i'm guessing that prices charged by RIB manufacturers depend upon (amongst other things) the cost of production, supply and demand, competition prices and what they can get away with, so I'm amazed that the cabin rib is priced at £80,000 even with a couple of verado's on the back..is it me or is this a bonkers price for a rib with a roof?

Go see the new Ribcraft 750 sport. Not what you might expect from Ribcraft.

Those seats are really conftable. Try jumping 3ft in the air and landing on it - you don't feel a thing! Shame about the price.

I was going to say that the LBS was pretty disapointing this year (mainly due to the lack of chandlers - mailspeed were everywhere!), but thinking about it I had a pretty good day. Managed to get a cheap 165m roll of 12mm octoplait.

I'm glad I stopped by the ICOM stand. The new M505 looks very nice and more importantly its cheaper and better than the M601 I had on order. M71's a great improvment over the M1Euro V too.

The new RNLI Tamar looks pretty impressive when your standing underneath it, all 30+ tons.

Hope the new 7.5 is a good hull as ordered a 6.5 on the same hull design with a 175 Suzuki back in October. Just waiting fo delivery, some time at the end of March.

It's a big help reading all the previews before struggling on up there ourselves.

Agree with Cork Rib : the Guinness tent is usually a good barometer of attendance!
Saturday tends to be a popular day i.e. barging around thru crowds all day

Just back from a trek around the show-

The New Ribcraft 7.5 sport looks absolutely great all round....
The New Raymarine A65 is looks like a fine bit of Rib kit for the money...
The New Verado 150 looks interesting.....
The RNLI tamar looks impressive.....
The canal boats look like no fun!

Look out for the cheapest rib at 16.99-on the RNLI stand-could be good for honing those skills in the winter!

80 grand for the boat only then you have to engine it. They will turn people off cabin ribs at this rate----far too expensive
