KitRiB - Home Build RIB`s Anyone?

I am looking for feedback from the RIB community at large so please feel free to express any comments you may have all will be gratefully received.

We, as builders of SportRibs up to 12 mtrs, are looking into the possibility of marketing a fully compliant 6.2 mtr Rib in component form for would be owners to complete at home.
Customer can buy the basis hull with finished floor ready for tubes to be fitted and then either fit their own seats etc or purchase these from us as time and money permits the choice is theirs.

This idea is aimed at what we believe is a sector of the market that, until now, has largely been ignored - an RCD compliant boat for up to 8 people long enough to be usable in a range of conditions with a fair turn of speed with an element of "styling" suitable for engines ranging from 50 - 150hp. Easily towed by a family saloon car, only requires a single axle trailer and therefore is easy to store and manouever that could be fitted with either a new or indeed second hand engine thus keepng the cost of "New Boat" ownership down to a minimum. Kit cars have been around for donkey`s years so why not a Kit Rib?

Seats, consoles, A Frames, steering systems, instruments, electronics packages even down to lifejackets, flares etc can all be supplied seperately.

Your thoughts and or comments would be gratefully received.

This is not some would be idea, we have already supplied 4 units that are currently being either used or completed by the owners and are presently building hull unit numbers 5 and six.

Anyone wanting further details regarding specifications prices etc.
please e-mail me directly.

Customer Boat No 1 (90 Merc)

Factory demonstrator with 75 DI (44knts)

sounds a great idea, the only drawback i can see, is if you wanted to build it in say the garage, would be the lenth issue. i have a 4m searider in mine, and it takes up just about all the space. but in saying that i would love to build my own rib, so if you are considering offering smaller ribs as well let me know

seaskimmer,

Thats exactly my problem! limited by garage space! A 5m one would be ideal for me.

Great idea though Steve, thanks again for your email, I've replied!

Pictures of KiTRib

Attached, should be 4 pics of the boat in question - there are two pics of an unfinished boat in our yard and one of our factory demonstrator fitted with 75 Evinrude DI (now sold to customer in County Cork) and a pic of customers boat 01 fitted with 90 Mercury.

I trust that this time I have negotiated the "upload" successfully.

Many thanks for replies so far I will try to get replies back to each of you in turn.

Many thanks,

Steve

Son of KitRib

Having had several interested parties asking if we have plans to produce a 5 mtr version (in order to fit in a garage!) we have checked our drawings and could indeed produce just such a hull unit for approx. £1100.00 would this be of interest? I am looking into RCD implications, but if need be we would get this shorter craft stability tested so as to ensure conformity before releasing to market.
Interested in all comments, ideas or orders (LOL) etc.

Regards,

Stevetheboat

Steve,

Sounds like a plan! Me and my mate would definately seriously consider this as an option depending on the cost and the price of a tube to fit (neither of us are really rolling in money!).

Do you know at the moment how much power it could take? or the internal width? I guess from your post that you would adjust the existing plans for the 6.2m to fit 5m, so the hull would be similar to the 6.2m, with similar chine positions and deadrise etc?

I sent you an email last night but it your address seems to have bounced back (twice). Jan's address did not though.

Cheers

Tim

6.5 Metre Rib

Hi Steve
Have you got the cost of the 6.5 Mtr ready tubed.Thinking of getting something bigger and I enjoy fitting them out.I've fitted out my last two Ribs I think it the best way of doing it,you can rely on it being done properly and to your exact specification.
